Selling a product to a professional using the words “Easy” and “Simple”. During my time at Wix, I had a long relationship with some important words for us as a company and what those words represent. It all started back in 2008 with "Free Website," the first real value we brought to our users. When we wanted to add more flavor to our brand and offering, Natalie Shell added "Stunning" to the mix, and we loved it. It wasn't just part of the brand; it was part of what we believed our product should represent. Tons of templates we launched and features we created were in line with this beautiful word. Then 2012 came, and the shift from Flash to HTML 5 took away some of our "Stunningness," so we moved more towards "Easy" and "Free." I remember sitting in the room when the creative team came up with our first Super Bowl ad: "It's that easy." We felt that for those years of our company, this was the right term for us, but we also knew that we were missing some professional elements of our brand. How could web professionals (who represent 30% of our business) promote themselves while we were saying it's easy and simple to create a professional website? I don't want to make this post too long, so I won't explain how we added the word "Professional" to the mix (2017) and brought back "Stunning," but trust me when I say that every time we made these adjustments, we did it in full alignment with our product. Fast forward to 2024. I believe the number one word that will speak to professionals in the next two to three years in almost every occupation will be "Efficiency." In my small world, marketing people who don't use AI tools to make their lives easier in some tasks will be left behind, while their competitors shine. So the words "Easy" and "Simple," which professionals used to hate so much, will again become their words in the future. I cannot emphasize enough the amount of learning we had and the pages of notes we took on product roadmap, marketing ideas, how to make sure our agency program is the best there is, market understanding, and eventually meeting amazing entrepreneurs in their journey building in eCommerce. We started the week meeting the amazing team from Barefoot Dreams, Inc., who are just launching such an exciting loyalty program (kudos to Kristen and Jamie)! The fabric of their robes is unbelievable; buy it for someone you love. Robbie, you had a huge impact on their ability to launch on time, kudos man. Then we had such an inspiring meeting with Sammy (thank you Sara, the rooftop was amazing as well). I think your insights are going to define a big portion of our email and agency roadmap for the next 12 months. I still cannot believe I was so impressed by someone who named his agency after his cat, I hate cats. 🐈 ❌ Tuesday morning, we met with the one-man show of Saie, John Perasco, one of the most amazing human beings, and we geeked out on the amazing options we are building together when you combine loyalty and subscription solutions on the same data platform. We are going to make a massive impact with this combo, and I'm so excited about it. It made us so happy to hear how he speaks about Anna Lesser—you are having a huge impact. Right after, meeting with Thomas and the rest of the PACSUN team was all about our AI innovation in reviews and how our insights product can level up their merchandising. Then, unfortunately, the LA traffic hit, and we got just on time to meet the amazing Murad UK team. Seeing what Soo, Lisa, and the rest of the team are doing is awesome. Besides being the nicest person I probably met, Soo gave us some great feedback and product ideas we are going to implement. We came out so excited about the future of this partnership. Justin, you should have heard the compliments Soo gave you. Tuesday continued with meeting the lean and mean team of Milani Cosmetics. It's amazing to see how a small team, with the command of Jeremy, can make so much happen in retail, Amazon, and DTC. We are going to bring in an agency to unlock some DTC growth for the 2nd half of the year. Oh, and the dogs were amazing—next time, I am bringing Charlie! 🐶 Diego really looking forward to start workin together.

We've ran multiple a/b tests across various client sites and all of them have shown that personalized recommendations can significantly lift AOV, UPT, and transaction rates. -> Why "Top Picks" Carousels Work According to a study by Dynamic Yield by Mastercard, personalized product recommendations can increase conversion rates by up to 20%. When users see products tailored to their preferences, they're more likely to engage and make a purchase. -> Homepage: The Gateway to Engagement Placing a "Top Picks" carousel here can immediately capture their attention. A case study by Barilliance showed personalized recommendations on the homepage increased AOV by 10-15%. Make sure the carousel is peeking just above the fold, so it's one of the first things users see when they land on your site. -> Category Pages: Guiding the User Journey Once users navigate to category pages, they're already showing interest in a specific type of product. This is a golden opportunity to present them with top picks in that category. A/B testing by Monetate revealed that category-specific recommendations could boost conversion rates by 25%. Place the carousel near the top of the page, just below the category header, to ensure it gets noticed. In our testing on this we found setting it slightly apart from the rest of the category listings by putting the sort and filter tools just below the carousel helped shoppers differentiate it from the normal product tiles. -> Product Pages: Cross-Selling and Upselling Product pages are where users make their final purchase decisions. Here, a "Top Picks" carousel can serve as a cross-selling and upselling tool. Research by Salesforce found that 35% of Amazon's revenue comes from its recommendation engine. Position the carousel just below the product details area on your site to catch the user's eye without distracting them from the main product. -> Cart Page: The Final Nudge A "Top Picks" carousel here can suggest complementary products, increasing the average order value. A well-placed recommendation can be the nudge a shopper needs to complete the purchase. *One caveat: We've tested placing product recommendation carousels on the cart page across several client sites and it doesn't always lead to a lift in the metics you want. There are some sites where it can cause shoppers to become confused, distracted, and to abandon their cart. Not a metric you want to see lift in.
