UCC students and alumni bid for All-Ireland glory As demand for tickets hits unprecedented levels, Cork and Clare are preparing to go head-to-head in the All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship final on Sunday. Cork’s extended panel will feature 26 players who are current students or who have graduated from University College Cork. Niall O’Leary, BEd Sports Studies and Physical Education graduate and History and PE teacher at St Colman’s College, said: “We’re at a stage where we kind of want to carve our own path and create our own history. UCC Fulbright Scholar to teach Irish in top US university Modern Irish student Édith de Faoite has received a prestigious Fulbright Award to teach at Elms College, Massachusetts. Playing Dungeons and Dragons is good for mental health A new study by PhD researcher Orla Walsh, UCC School of Applied Psychology, paves the way for clinicians and psychologists to further explore the benefits of the game as a therapeutic tool. After the game experienced a surge in popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic, this study investigated the impact of playing D&D on the mental health of frequent players. It identified several aspects that supported positive mental health, including escapism, exploration of self, creative expression, providing for others, social support and routine.
