Philanthropy Ireland (PI) is the representative body for the philanthropic sector in Ireland.

About us

Philanthropy Ireland is the Association of independent philanthropic organisations in Ireland, including grant making trusts and foundations. Established in 1998 as a voluntary and informal network called the Funders’ Forum, the organisation was established as a company limited by guarantee, with charitable status in 2004 and changed its name to Philanthropy Ireland. Our Mission is to increase the level of philanthropy in Ireland and to expand the community of engaged donors who are regular, strategic, long term contributors to good causes. Philanthropy Ireland works with many individuals and organisations in the public, private and not-for-profit arena who continuously support us in our mission to promote thoughtful and sustainable giving. PI is a company limited by guarantee. Registered Charity number 20047382. Companies Registration Office number 371896. CHY (Revenue) number 14484.

    This weeks knowledge sharing for our philanthropy community is some interesting new reports launched from around the globe. 🌐 Department of Rural and Community Development launched the "Trading for Impact" National Social Enterprise Policy 2024-2027 to support and grow Ireland's social enterprise sector, alongside a new €2 million "Growing Social Enterprise" fund, offering grants to enhance the sustainability and impact of social enterprises. The policy aims to enrich social, environmental, and economic wellbeing through 57 concrete actions and will be overseen by a Stakeholder Engagement Group https://lnkd.in/d-HAzYUA 📑 Philanthropy Australia has welcomed the Productivity Commission's "Future Foundations for Giving" report, which calls for significant reforms to enhance charitable giving in Australia. The Australian Government aims to double giving by 2030, with the report guiding future policy decisions. A great read in the context of Ireland’s aim to incentivise philanthropy as part of the National Philanthropy Strategy.     ❇ A great good news story from one of our newest members UCD Foundation and a great example of philanthropy partnerships. Arthur Cox LLP has committed €35,000 to support UCD's University of Sanctuary programme for the 2024/25 academic year. This donation will aid refugee and International Protection Applicant students with maintenance payments and support their academic and personal success through engagement and mentoring. 🎓 UCD's programme supports up to 50 students annually, promoting inclusivity and providing essential financial and academic resources, read the full story here https://lnkd.in/eya9tbFT

    Sharing some key takeaways from the recent global report "Illuminating the Invisible: Social Impact Infrastructure Organisations". This study sheds light on the impactful work of Social Impact Infrastructure Organisations (SIIOs) worldwide, commissioned by Propel Philanthropy and Alliance magazine and supported by WINGS.  SIIOs, simply put are intermediary organisations that support philanthropy, there are many such organisaitons in the philanthropy community in Ireland that support philanthropists and look to create social impact. 🔍 Key Takeaways from the report: 1. Importance of Collaboration: SIIOs play a crucial role in fostering collaboration and partnership within the philanthropy sector. Working together can amplify impact and drive positive change. 2. Focus on Advocacy and Representation: Advocacy efforts by SIIOs are essential in influencing government policies and creating a conducive environment for philanthropy to thrive. 3. Building Ecosystems: SIIOs, are instrumental in developing and strengthening the philanthropic ecosystem. Supporting local philanthropic institutions can lead to long-term sustainable impact. 4. Leadership and Thought Leadership: SIIOs are transitioning from service providers to leaders in the sector, driving innovation and thought leadership. They are at the forefront of transformative change. 5. Skill Reinforcement and Collective Learning: SIIOs facilitate skill development and peer learning opportunities, enabling members to enhance their philanthropic practices and make informed decisions. ℹ️ This report challenges us to rethink our approach to philanthropy and emphasises the importance of collaborative efforts in driving social impact and change- a key issue we at Philanthropy Ireland are looking to explore and foster among our members.
