Roles include Apprentice Quantity Surveyors, Apprentice Civil Engineers and Apprentice Site Managers. The cohort come from different parts of the UK and will work across a variety of Sisk sites, from the Silvertown site in London to the Kex Gill highway/civils project in Yorkshire. Workshops during the induction, which took place in Solihull near Birmingham, included the programme overview, HR intro, ‘Career with no limits’ session, goal setting, workplace skills including branding and professional communications, wellbeing in the workplace and manual handing training. A mentor training toolkit session followed by a networking dinner allowed the apprentices to connect with existing members of the Sisk team. Iain Lindsay, Head of Talent, Sisk, said: “The energy and engagement from the apprentices was high across the 3 days which was great to see. The first week is especially important and we went through a lot with them to get them prepared for life on site, which they now have started. We’re excited for their futures with Sisk.” #WeAreSisk #apprentice #apprenticeships #construction #civils Sean Fitzpatrick Alan Rodger Dominic Hodges Ger Hayes Rob Oxley Chartered FCIPD Iain Lindsay MSc FCIPD Verity Machell Kathryn Stevens, Assoc. 𝗦𝗶𝘀𝗸’𝘀 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 We’re delighted to publish our third annual sustainability report, covering our sustainability activity that occurred during 2023. It includes an update on our performance against the targets set out in our 2030 Sustainability Roadmap ‘Building today, Caring for tomorrow’. Sinéad Hickey, Head of Sustainability for Ireland and Europe, Sisk, says: “There were some notable highlights in 2023 – we planted nearly 500,000 trees across Ireland, UK and Europe; we’ve had our carbon targets validated by the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi); and we achieved ISO 20400 business ready certification for sustainable procurement. Those highlights are just a small example of the wide range of sustainable business activity that happened during 2023 and of course we are pushing again in 2024 to achieve even more. We know it is an ongoing journey and it’s about being part of the solution for a better, healthier, and more equitable future.” We appreciate the work of our colleagues and our wide range of stakeholders who help us daily to achieve our targets and positively impact sustainability across Sisk and the wider industry. We'd like to give a huge fundraising shout out to John Sisk & Son Ltd who recently raised £2620.20 for our charity. We'd also like to give a special thanks to Jess, the Project Assistant at John Sisk & Son, who had done some volunteer work for a local family and felt inspired to do more. 𝗘𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 The civils team in Sheffield have been busy in July with various social value projects, making positive change to the local community. Three highlights have been: ✅ Working with Opportunity Sheffield, Sisk’s team supported local people to overcome barriers to employment and enhance their career progression. All work experience placements passed their CSCS training, and are looking for paid work in the construction industry. We successfully placed two people in July…including Brad who features in the photos of this post…and have a further two lined up for August. ✅ Sisk part-sponsored the Better Learners, Better Workers graduation event in partnership with a local high school, King Edward VII, for one academic year. This programme offers a series of employer-led activities introducing young ambassadors to careers in civil engineering and construction. ✅ July also saw the final Future Endeavour coaching and mentoring session with All Saints High School. Sisk partnered with local employers and Endeavour Youth and Community, delivering fortnightly coaching and skills-building sessions using outdoor activities, workplace encounters and indoor creative workshops for one academic year. These are just some examples of the great social value work the team is undertaking each month around our two city centre sites in Sheffield - the Kelham Neepsend Active Travel scheme and the Fargate Future High Street Fund project. #WeAreSisk #SocialValue #Civils #Sheffield Dominic Hodges Lee Long CMgr MCMI Mike Widdicks Scott Cooper Amber Hendy Richard Gratton Emma Parker Sarah Ward Nichola Burkinshaw Katie Leather Opportunity Sheffield - Sheffield City Council Endeavour Youth and Community Better Learners Better Workers (BLBW) Sheffield City Council
