A recent survey among 4,000 members of Capital Credit Union in Dublin has shed light on the challenges hindering individuals from achieving their financial aspirations. The findings show that the soaring cost of living in Ireland is becoming a significant roadblock for many. More than half of the respondents identified Ireland's high cost of living and persistent inflation as primary barriers to their financial success. Following closely behind was the challenge of insufficient income, highlighting the pressing need for fair compensation and financial education. Additionally, a lack of savings emerged as a notable concern, underscoring the importance of cultivating a culture of saving and prudent financial planning. Despite these hurdles, the survey indicates that a majority believe their financial situation has stabilised, showcasing resilience amid economic uncertainties. Peoples core financial goals remain steadfast: paying off mortgages, owning homes, and providing for children's futures. For parents, seeing their children embark on their financial journeys is paramount, alongside securing a comfortable retirement. Chief executive of the Capital Credit Union Pat Byrne said, “We try to encourage members to set their financial goals as early as possible.
