About us
Sport Ireland was established on the 1st October 2015 and brings together the Irish Sports Council (ISC), the Sport Ireland Institute, National Sports Campus and Coaching Ireland to drive the future of Irish sport. Background The Institute of Sport (now the Sport Ireland Institute) was set up by the government in 2006 and based at the Sport Ireland National Sports Campus in Abbotstown. Our remit is to deliver world class support services to high performance athletes mandated by the Irish Sports Council. In 2009 the Institute successfully transitioned and took over responsibility for the science and medicine player athlete services from Coaching Ireland (formerly the NCTC). In December 2009, we moved into the Institute HQ building and in late 2010 with a grant from the Department of Arts Sport and Tourism began commissioning the clinics and labs out of which we deliver services. The science, medicine and lifestyle support services from our HQ became operational in April 2011. Our focus We focus on three key components to positively impact the performance of Irish athletes. These are: Systems, Services and People Informed by the analysis of the wider sport system the Institute is working with the sports to deliver: System Development: high performance planning, review and debrief, development of process and protocols. Service Development: integrated and focused support services across science, medicine and lifestyle management. People Development: high performance coach development, accreditation of service providers, professional development for coaches, performance directors and service providers. - See more at: http://www.instituteofsport.ie

Thanks Ciaran. We are thrilled with Rhys success, congratulate him, Luke, Sally and all in Gymnastics Ireland involved in this gold medal win. Proud of our team who supported Gymnastics, in particular Julianne Ryan. We look forward to working with you to build on this success. #BelievePerformAchieve
Chief Executive at Gymnastics Ireland & Board Member Olympic Federation of Ireland and European Gymnastics
Sitting in Charles de Gaulle airport about to fly back to Dublin after an emotional few days in Paris to say the least. Difficult to describe how proud we all are at Gymnastics Ireland of what Rhys McClenaghan and Luke Carson have achieved. Ireland’s first Olympic gymnastics Champion - no need to say any more other than thank-you! Results like this don’t happen without the support of great partners like Sport Ireland, Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media and the Olympic Federation of Ireland so to them all also a huge thank you! Thank you to Rhys’ parents Tracy & Danny along with the rest of his family & friends - their support in a journey like Rhys’ can never be underestimated! Thank you to our Performance & Technical Director Sally Johnson for her superb leadership of the Gymnastics Ireland performance programme in supporting Rhys & Luke. Thank you also to Sport Ireland Institute for providing Rhys and our wider programme with world class athlete support services. Finally thank you to the wider team at Gymnastics Ireland across all departments, the Board and committees for the work that goes on constantly in the background, largely unseen, but that has also played its part in the fantastic & historic result Rhys & Luke delivered at Paris 2024! Sport Starts Here… ☘️💪🏻🇮🇪 #gymnastics #ireland #performance #olympic #games #paris2024

We are so proud of the achievements of Kellie Harrington and the entire boxing squad of athletes, coaches and other support personnel as referenced below by Sharon Madigan, Head of Nutrition here at the Sport Ireland Institute. We see the hard work of the programme every day as the boxing high performance programme is based here with us. We congratulate the boxers on their achievements and are ready to support them through to LA 2028.
With 25 years experience, I have helped countless individuals achieve their health and performance goals. I hold a PhD in Nutrition Education and have contributed to the field of nutrition through my published research.
Pictures can speak more than words at times. A great athlete retires in an iconic location with a historic defence of her Tokyo gold. A superb coaching team (who need fuelled aswell) and the rest of the boxers who have given so much to qualify. Qualification in Europe in boxing is a significant task and having 10 boxers experience this stage and drive them on gives us all great pride. A great addition to the support offering to #TeamIreland fully supported by Gavin. Our analysis suite at the Institute was packed up and temporarily rehoused in the Olympic Village under the watchful eye of our Head of Performance Analysis Alan Swanton #BelievePerformAchieve
Performance Analysis Thanks to Woodland Group we’ve been able to set up behind the scenes at a new level. More equipment with a little more comfort. Many plans are hatched, detailed and confirmed in this space. Previews of competitors and analysis of ourselves. We don’t have population size so we need to maximise what and who we have and facilitate coaches to make informed decisions. Alan Swanton and team 💪
