Budget 2024 saw some very positive recognition of the important role that Ireland's Angel Investment community can have in the funding of the next generation of great irish companies. Along with our partners in Scale Ireland we have engaged with Minister Michael McGrath TD and his team in the Department of Finance Ireland on the practical implementation of the Budget 2024 proposals. Today's amendments to the Finance Bill will provide an alternative option to avail of the relief by investing a sum of 20K, we will be examining the impact of this welcome measure over the coming days.
Scale Ireland has been engaging positively with the Department of Finance Ireland on ensuring the reduced CGT rate for Angel investors who invest in start-ups is effective. We and HBAN raised issues about the 5% ownership requirement which would have excluded over 85% of Angels. Today's amendments show there will also be an alternative option to avail of the relief by investing €20k only - a welcome move and less restrictive. We will need to further assess the provisions over the coming days, but strongly welcome the engagement with Minister Michael McGrath TD and the Department. HBAN All-Island Director Ciaran Gilsenan spoke to Jonathan Keane at the weekend around the broadly positive budget for angel investors and entrepreneurs. We're planning more conversations with the Department of Finance over the coming weeks, particularly with respect to the 5% ownership requirement for an angel investor to be eligible for the lower rate of Capital Gains tax of 16pc. If we want to democratise investment then a more inclusive approach is to provide a tax benefit to all angels investors, regardless of cheque size. https://lnkd.in/eXCXSBmc
