We were very happy to collaborate with AgTech Ireland to host another stimulating event for the agtech ecosystem in Ireland. The event saw Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine engage with agtech companies in relation to the Targeted Agricultural Modernisation Scheme (TAMS). Catherine Lascurettes Gary Ryan
A great thank you to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine Muldowney John, Dr Robert Leonard, Sinead Mulcahy, Jack Nolan and a sizeable Team of colleagues for collaborating today with our AgTech Ireland information and discussion session on the third Targeted Agricultural Modernisation Scheme (#TAMS3), the CAP funded grant scheme which supports farmers investing in sustainability-boosting building work and equipment between 2023 and 2027. With MC David Leydon of Ifac Ireland, Director of AgTech Ireland in the driving seat, our members now better understand the principles underpinning eligibility under the scheme. TAMS now asks applicants to invest beyond what is legally required in climate action, environmental sustainability, animal welfare, health and safety. Our Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine colleagues gained an appreciation of the implications for agtech companies supplying eligible equipment of delays and bureaucracy discouraging farmers' investment decisions. Some equipments which facilitate several aspects of farm sustainability are currently not deemed eligible, and DAFM were asked to review the scheme's eligibility list to reflect fast evolving needs and technology. Outside of TAMS, from Sinead Mulcahy we heard of the grant opportunities for edible and ornamental horticulture operators. From Jack Nolan, how #SMEs producing organic foods, including farmers adding value to their organic production, can also benefit from processing grants. The deadline for this year is tight: 14th June. But the scheme will most likely be renewed, hopefully with a larger budget, next year. Find out more about this here: https://lnkd.in/eziv7p8A Our discussion panel, ably led by AgTech Ireland Director Deirdre O'Shea of Aon, included member company representatives Nick Cotter, Laura Conlon, Martin O'Donnell, Jack O'Connor and Shane Doran. They outlined how technological innovations support farm sustainability, identified obstacles to adoption and suggested amendments to the TAMS scheme. The audience expressed concerns over delays in processing applications - which we were told are reducing for tranches 2 and 3 - and the need to review reference costs. Members expressed a wish to improve communications so that DAFM officials, advisors and agtech equipment companies all give the same, correct advice to farmers as to how to proceed with their applications. Finally, we heard from Deirdre de Bhailís and Dinny Galvin of Dingle Hub, on their expertise in running farm-based technology validation trials, managing and analysing data in full compliance with #GDPR. They are open for business for agtech companies wishing to trial their technology in real farm settings. Thank you to AgTech Ireland Director Ursula Kelly of Cormac Tagging for drawing the proceedings to a positive conclusion: this is start of a collaboration for a more sustainable Irish agriculture.
