Setting up right and strong foundations when creating a company, is a must; more important than ever before. A company needs to have a PURPOSE and VISION. These have to be set as clear as possible by the founder(s) since its inception. Then VALUES. These will trickle down and used as the guidelines for everyone in the company to think and act. These are the backbones that will set the culture of the company. Founder/CEO cant just rely on those written and framed on the office wall. Purpose, Vision, and Values should not be something the team have to memorize. Rather, something they need to do. So, as the Founder/CEO, what you need to do is to LEAD BY EXAMPLE by always WALK THE TALK. As a VC, i would love to back this kind of company and founder. Pretty excited about this one - a team with a remarkable track record across top DeFi protocols, propelled by a clear & effective go to market strategy. The result? Over $300 million in TVL and $2 billion in trading volume within just a few short months. ___________________________ As Blast was gearing up for its launch, the market was flooded with over a dozen different spot and perpetual DEXes seeking funding. At the time, Blast had already achieved over $2 billion in TVL and we anticipated they would launch various mainnet incentives to maintain liquidity within the protocol. Our aim was to identify the team most capable of capturing the majority of mindshare and swap volume from the $2 billion+ of captive liquidity in the ~3 months leading up to the Blast token generation event (TGE). Consequently, we engaged in several discussions and reviewed numerous pitches to better understand how the DEX competition might unfold. We were particularly impressed by the Thruster team and their strategy to attract early attention and liquidity through focused partnerships and integrations. ___________________________ At Futureproof, we invest our own capital, which can sometimes be seen as a limitation in the venture capital space. Allocate just released an analysis on a dataset of 253 venture funds, with only pre-2019 vintage years being included. The analysis shows a clear negative correlation between high risk / high reward investment profiles and size of venture fund, i.e. the smaller the funds, the higher the performance, but also the higher the risk. Two ways that LPs can mitigate the higher risk of smaller funds: 1. Diversify across more emerging managers, and 2. Invest across vintages with said managers. Here are the details: Small Funds (0-100MM): Mean TVPI: 4.3 Standard Deviation: 2.4 Median Portfolio Companies: 26 Mid-Sized Funds (100-250MM): Mean TVPI: 3.6 Standard Deviation: 2.0 Median Portfolio Companies: 24 Mid-Large (250-500MM): MeanTVPI: 3.0 Standard Deviation: 1.2 Median Portfolio Companies: 35 Large (500MM+): Mean TVPI: 2.7 Standard Deviation: 0.9 Median Portfolio Companies: 43

How I build Seasonality forecasts 👇 ~~~ 𝗧𝗟;𝗗𝗥: grab the template here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eKDEu5Rt ~~~ 1. 𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 In the "Historical Revenue" section I pull together several years of history (if available) and stack them together by month. At the bottom I calculate "Total of All Years" which gives me a grand total by month over the last [6] years. 2. 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘀𝘁 I take the respective monthly totals and divide them by the grand total Revenue over that time period. This gives me my "Seasonality Curve, As Calculated," which serves as a reference point for the forecast (a weighted-average of the history). Then, right below that, I have "Seasonality Curve, for Model," which allows the user to make any changes to the expected seasonality curve for this year. (Default is just to leave the curve alone) 3. 𝗣&𝗟 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘀𝘁 Now that I have my curve, I simply punch in the expected Revenue and Gross Margin (the two light-yellow input cells), and extrapolate those figures for each month based on the seasonality curve. The Revenue and Margin forecasts come from the Management Team. My job as the FP&A Professional is challenge their assumptions: - Will our seasonality be different this year? - Why $2.7mm? - Why 20% Margin? 4. 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹 The Revenue and COGS get linked back to my Three Statement Model. If I need to make changes, I come back to my seasonality tab, make the change, and trust that my Three Statement Model will update accordingly. (meaning my Working Capital will also change correctly) 5. 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝗺𝘆 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 Lastly, I will always have double-checks confirming: - My seasonality curve equals 100% - The Revenue and COGS in the Schedule match the Three Statement Model - The Gross Profit in the Schedule matches the Three Statement Model All of these double-checks will feed into a Control Panel I have as the first page in my model. 6. 𝗗𝘂𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱 For a new product line I just type "Alt + e + m," create a copy of the tab, and rename for a new product line. I'll build as many small, simple schedules as I need to create a comprehensive model that is easy to follow. Founders: Learn to say "tell me more." When faced with challenging questions or negative feedbacks in a meeting with an investor or a customer, or when in a tough negotiation, your instinct will be to respond and counter immediately because you don't want to look bad. Don't do that. Instead, say "tell me more." In most cases, such challenging questions or negative feedbacks are only a very small expressed part of the entire context. By saying "tell me more" you can extract more context behind them and better understand what that someone on the other side of the table really wants to know or concerns about, and it will help you regain the control over the conversation. Especially with investors, if you're a seed-stage company, most of the seed-stage VCs ask challenging questions just to see how you can clearly and logically think and respond as we understand that you may have to change your strategy, product, etc, going forward. In tough negotiations also, even when some things seem non-negotiable with the other side, there are alonost always second best and third best alternatives which you could find simply by saying "tell me more." Of course sometimes those tough questions, negative feedbacks or tough negotiations are the indicator of flat-out 'No’s.' But in such cases, just by simply asking them to tell you more, you’ve just - at the very least, learned a new perspective. So learn to say "tell me more."

This has to be one of the most positive weeks for the Solana ecosystem. Besides releasing two major technical updates, VanEck unexpectedly applied for a Solana Spot ETF with the SEC yesterday. Here's a brief overview of all the important details. 𝐙𝐊 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 Last Friday, two infrastructure providers from the Solana ecosystem presented ZK Compression, a new technology that is intended to make the Solana network even more scalable. By leveraging Zero-Knowledge cryptography, developers will no longer need to keep all relevant application data onchain - without impacting the network's performance or security. The result? Drastically lowered costs. As per the announcement, using ZK Compression reduces the cost of an airdrop to 1 million users to just $50, instead of $260,000. A massive unlock for all Solana developers. Kudos to Helius and Light Protocol for this great achievement! 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐁𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐬 This announcement has taken the entire crypto industry by storm. A new suite of developer tools, namely Solana Actions and Blockchain Links (Blinks), allow Solana applications to be embedded on practically every website by simply sharing a link. This, for example, enables users to trade tokens, stake SOL, or mint NFTs through their social feed on X without having to leave the platform, bringing Solana apps to where the consumers are. In the coming weeks, platforms like Reddit and Discord will also be supported, effectively turning them into interfaces and distribution channels for Solana applications. However, it should be mentioned that users must have a Solana wallet installed in order to interact with Blinks. Nevertheless, it's great to see that the concept behind 'Frames' (introduced by the Ethereum-based social media protocol Farcaster at the beginning of the year) got adopted and advanced by another ecosystem. This kind of innovation is crucial to onboard more people into web3. 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭 𝐄𝐓𝐅 Out of the blue, VanEck filed a Solana ETF application with the SEC yesterday, becoming the first U.S. asset manager to do so. Although many observers currently give the application little chance of approval, this could still be a smart strategic move by VanEck. If all the necessary forms are filed timely, the deadline for the final decision would expire in March 2025. Until then, a more crypto-friendly U.S. government (and SEC) could be in place, increasing the odds for an approval. But approval aside, the move underscores once again the importance of Solana within the crypto industry.
