Imagine a town where everyone is a passionate learner. Solve Education! just closed June with over 100,000 monthly active learners, almost as big as the population of Izumisano, Osaka, Japan! Look at the excitement of our team as we celebrate this incredible milestone! But this isn’t just about numbers. It’s about dreams coming true, goals being reached, and futures being changed. Over the past years, we have engaged with hundreds of thousands of amazing learners from Indonesia, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, and many more. We are so glad to be part of their journey growing up. Take Azhar from Indonesia, who built a learning community and gathered over 8,000 learners to play Ed the Learning Bot. Or Akram from Malaysia, whose dedication to learning helped him secure a scholarship and pursue his dream of working in engineering. And let’s not forget Tesa from Flores, Indonesia, who used to be a shy girl. She gained confidence through our learning program. With the help of a Solve Education! scholarship, she can also continue to pursue her passion for learning taekwondo. Each learner represents a step towards a brighter future. The best time to do user testing is 10pm⏰ at night. At Solve Education! Foundation. And this is why => Dado, our researcher, was supposed to have a call with our user at 6pm, after our user had finished work. Our user informed us that he has to postpone to 8pm ⏰ , because he has to go home to feed his children. Then we got another message from him to postpone to 10pm ⏰ , so that he can put his kids to sleep before having a call with us. Dado's friend told Dado: "Who are the fools who do user testing at 10pm at night?" After Dado had rejected to join him for DOTA (a computer game). Dado replied: "2 fools. Me + my user." You might think that the user would be flaky and not turn up. But he turned up at 10pm for the call, as promised. He enthusiastically gave us many interesting insights! I know this goes beyond the "work life" balance people are typically advocating for. But we serve marginalised communities, daily wage workers, etc. Many times, why our beneficiaries can't go to school or attend courses during the day - is because they need to work, to support their families. If we don't empathise with them, how do we effectively support them? Behind our >100K monthly active learners, are untold stories like this one. And we are about to do what we do, only when we hold the hands of our learners, and progress together side by side. 🤗 Would love to hear how your user interactions and testings are like! Imagine juggling your studies while caring for a sick loved one. Solve Education!’s star learners, Annisa, a student from Lepar National Secondary School, did just that. Her incredible perseverance led her to achieve the top rank in the 2023 Solve Education! Learning Competition in Pekan, Malaysia. Annisa and other top students from her school were invited to share their experiences on Pahang FM, the official radio station of Pahang. They talked about how Solve Education!’s learning platform helped them do well in English. These achievements show how strong dedication will bloom success. We are very proud of their efforts and achievements! Stories like Annisa's are possible because of the support of our funders and partners. While others slept, Akram, our Malaysian learner, tirelessly programmed under the glow of a screen, becoming an inspiring example of hard work and success in STEM. With the incredible support of our funders, Solve Education! is able to nurture future STEM leaders like Akram many others in Asia Pacific. Starting as a curious 13-year-old at SMK Sultan Ismail, Malaysia, Akram quickly became the go-to expert among his friends. Because of his unwavering dedication, he earned spots in various national and international competitions, showcasing his talents far and wide. Later, at Polytechnic Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, Akram continued his pursuit of excellence by pursuing a diploma in IT. During this time, he recognized the importance of mastering English and soft skills to excel in his field. When Shahfiq Abas, our teammate at Solve Education!, introduced him to Ed the Learning Bot, Akram eagerly embraced Solve Education! Learning Challenge Season 4 in 2022. Leading his team to victory against 54 teams from countries like Indonesia, India, Nigeria, and Rwanda, Akram’s dedication gained recognition in Berita Harian, a Malaysian newspaper. Not only did he improve his English, but he also honed his public speaking skills. As a result of his hard work, Akram secured an internship at Sasbadi Holdings Berhad, Malaysia's largest publishing company and LEGO Education products distributor. There, he conducted numerous workshops and training sessions in both Malay and English, allowing his talent to shine through. Today, Akram works full-time as a STEM Education Consultant Executive, even before attending his convocation ceremony. His journey from a late-night learner to a future STEM leader exemplifies the power of dedication and continuous learning.
