【Nominations now underway for Trainee of the Year Award】 We are calling for nominations for the Trainee of the Year Award. This Award aims to recognise those Scheme “A” trainees who have achieved outstanding performance in the engineering profession and the wider community. Prize winners and their companies will be invited to the HKIE Prize Presentation Ceremony to receive their awards and souvenirs. Registered Scheme "A" trainees in training within the period from 1 September 2023 to 31 August 2024 are eligible to apply for this year’s Award. Nominations are open till 31 August 2024. 【中國科學技術協會到訪】 日前(7月7日)，中國科學技術協會(中國科協)港澳台辦公室副主任張斌先生及港澳台處處長王保輝先生到訪學會總部，由會長馬紹祥工程師及一眾學會領導接待。中聯辦教育科技部副部長葉水球先生及三級調研員仇志偉先生亦有參與是次會面。 在會中，雙方就一系列重要議題進行交流。中國科協向學會介紹中國工程師聯合體的重點目標，包括對內積極提升工程師職業化水準、著力開展工程能力評價工作；對外加強國際交流與合作、積極參與工程領域全球治理等。學會則與與會者分享近期與廣東省各工程學會簽訂專業資格互認上的進展，以及粵港澳大灣區港澳工程專業人才職稱評審的工作安排。中聯辦就學會的工作表示支持。 雙方未來將繼續在學術交流和人才培養等方面深化合作，並會積極探討在海外共同推動工程業界合作的可行方案。 #HKIE #香港工程師學會 #CAST #Engineering #Visit #GrowtheNexusLinktheLinks #HKIEMatters

🎊【第十五屆光華工程科技獎】 學會祝賀岑浩璋教授、工程師成為第十五屆光華工程科技獎的獲獎人之一。 光華工程科技獎的目的是獎勵在工程科技和管理領域取得卓越成績和重要貢獻的中國工程師和科學家，以鼓勵他們積極從事工程科技的研究、發展和應用，並激發他們的創造力。本年度，岑浩璋教授、工程師憑藉「雙水相微流控技術」得獎，而他早前接受傳媒訪問時提及微流控技術研發能應用於更先進的醫療設備，給醫療界或者普羅大眾應用，幫助疾病精準檢測和治療。 #第十五屆光華工程科技獎 #TheBuzzInTown

【Stakeholder Engagement Workshop for HKIE Governance Review】 In response to members’ concerns over governance practices as garnered in the Time to Change Roadmap Survey in Session 2021/2022, a Working Group on Governance Review has been set up under President Ir Eric Ma’s steerage to oversee the Governance Review Study conducted by the commissioned consultant. To facilitate effective engagement with our members, a Stakeholder Engagement Workshop was held on 29 June in hybrid mode and over 100 members participated in person and online via a Zoom Webinar. The workshop began with opening remarks from Ir Ma, who outlined the current progress of the Study. This was followed by Dr Alex Katsanos, representative from the commissioned consultant, who walked the participants through the key findings identified and the possible solutions. The workshop also featured a valuable Q&A session, allowing participants to weigh in on the topics covered. The feedback collected from the workshop is crucial to the next phase of the Study. 【ICEE Conference 2024】 The International Council on Electrical Engineering (ICEE) Conference 2024 was held from 30 June to 4 July in Kitakyushu, Japan. Our Senior Vice President, Ir Alice Chow, led the HKIE delegation to attend this important annual event, jointly organised by The Institution of Electrical Engineers of Japan (IEEJ), The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers (KIEE), The Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering (CSEE) and the HKIE. The Conference’s theme this year was “TRANSformative Electrical Engineering for Future Society”. We were thrilled to see many electrical engineers, researchers and students from around the world to share their research findings and experiences on a broad spectrum of topics. This fostered a spirit of global cooperation in tackling the challenges and inspiring ideas in the electrical engineering. It was an honour to have our Past President Ir Prof C C Chan to be one of the keynote speakers and deliver a presentation titled “New Journey of Energy Revolution and Automotive Revolution” at the Conference. Representatives from the Electrical Division also participated in the Super Session and Panel Discussion Sessions. The Conference was concluded, on the last day, by technical visits to SHIN-KOKURA Thermal Power Station, JR Kokura General Rolling Stock Center and TOTO museum. 【A Visit from ICE】 It is the second visit from the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) in the first half of 2024. Our newly installed President Ir Eric Ma, Senior Vice President Ir Alice Chow, Vice President Ir Rupert Leung, Chairman of Civil Division Ir Alex Li, and Chief Executive & Secretary Ir Prof Alfred Sit received the delegation and its Hong Kong Association, led by Dr Janet Young, Director General and Secretary of ICE on 26 June. Our representatives elaborated on the HKIE’s commitment to positioning itself as a “superconnector” – “linking the links” between the Mainland and engineering communities worldwide. In addition to our well-established ties with UK engineering counterparts, we shared our progress in negotiating further mutual recognition agreements, particularly with our counterparts in the Mainland. These agreements aim to create new opportunities for our members to expand their reach and collaborations. We are grateful for ICE’s tremendous support of our endeavours in strengthening global connections, such as introducing opportunities available in the Hong Kong’s engineering industry to graduates during career fairs held in the UK. Together, we will continue our efforts to create more global collaborations and opportunities. #HKIE #ICE
