We were delighted to host Thomson Reuters’s Legal AI Skills Challenge and their "Asia Legal Priorities 2024: AI, Legal Tech & Operational Excellence" event at our centre this week. With the rise of generative AI tools and other legal technologies set to transform various aspects of legal work, the insightful discussions explored how legal teams can embrace new priorities and utilize technologies to access new opportunities. At HKIAC, since our 2018 Administered Arbitration Rules, we have expressly identified the effective use of technology as a factor to be considered by an arbitral tribunal when determining suitable procedures for the conduct of an arbitration. In practice, tribunals and parties are also becoming more receptive and skilled at adopting technologies to improve efficiency. We look forward to continuing to contribute to the dialogue on the potential of legal tech and generative AI. Thank you again to Thomson Reuters for the food for thought! #arbitration #LegalTech #AI

As a proud supporter of Campaign for Greener Arbitrations: The Green Pledge, HKIAC is pleased to share the following updates. 📘 2024 HKIAC Administered Arbitration Rules, in effect from 1 June 2024, include a new express provision requiring tribunals and parties to consider environmental impact for the conduct of the arbitration, and empowering tribunals to take into account any adverse environmental impact resulting from the parties’ conduct when allocating costs. Since 2021, HKIAC has offered parties HKIAC Case Connect, a secure online case management platform that reduces the environmental impact by using electronic documents: https://lnkd.in/eAFqGiZ9 📙 As host of ICCA 2024 Hong Kong Congress in May, HKIAC negotiated for participants to receive the ICCA Congress Book, published by Wolters Kluwer in conjunction with ICCA International Council for Commercial Arbitration, as an e-publication – for the first time. This new e-publication option could save the printing and global shipping of up to 1400 hard copy books. 🎍 For ICCA 2024 Hong Kong, we also requested that all promotional materials considered sustainability. For HKIAC, we distributed a bamboo wireless phone charger and minimised printing by limiting publications to one-page flyers with a QR code to electronic versions. 🌳 One of our flagship publications, the Asian Dispute Review, is now printed on FSC certified paper and we encourage readers to enjoy the publication online: https://www.asiandr.com/ HKIAC looks forward to more initiatives to continue its commitment towards sustainability🌍. We also welcome input and suggestions on how to improve. #green #sustainability #icca #hkiac #fscpaper #arbitration #legal

HKIAC 2024 Administered Arbitration Rules take effect today, 1st June 2024. The 2018 Administrated Arbitration Rules are widely recognised as a market-leading set of arbitral rules. As such, while the 2024 Rules introduce several new provisions to reflect advancing social norms and technological developments, they are largely a refinement of the 2018 Rules. The overall aim of the amendments is to improve the time- and cost-efficiency of HKIAC arbitration, while maintaining the “light touch” administration for which HKIAC is well known. Our sincere thanks to the HKIAC Rules Revision Committee Members: Briana Young (Chair), John Choong, Mariel Dimsey, Nils Eliasson, Sarah Grimmer, Karl Hennessee, Joanne Lau, Dong Long, Eric Ng, David W. Rivkin, Zhao Fang. Download your copy of the 2024 Rules here: https://lnkd.in/gA7x7cn7
