Consulting services based on the design and quantification of scenarios on energy, economy, environment and transport.
About us
We are a team of experienced consultants, analysts and modellers specializing in providing consulting services based on advanced empirical modelling of the energy-economy-environment nexus. Our policy analysis experience dates back to 1990. Our integrated modelling tools represent the operations and inter-linkages of the energy, economy and environment systems and provide informed, transparent and robust analysis and recommendations to the European Commission, national governments, energy regulators, companies of the private sector in the energy and transport domains, small and medium-size investors, international organizations and associations. Our work provides the necessary quantitative indicators to assess the impacts of climate transition pathways and evolutions in energy markets.

💫 NAVIGATE project comes to an end after 4 years of hard work to improve Integrated Assessment Models (#IAMs) and contribute to a fast, fair and just transition to a system of #netzeroemissions. 📑The final report of the project provides key insights on: 📌Exploiting synergies between #energysecurity and #climatemitigation; #climate, #land, #energy and #water #SDGs; as well as wellfare gains through climate policy. 📌Advancing demand side mitigation such as #lifestylechange for climate change mitigation and #lowcarbon #transport incl. #aviation and #shipping 📌Linking #structural change, technology #innovation, industry transformation (integrating several novel mitigation technologies and processes), #landbased mitigation and #socioeconomic developments. 📌Understanding the #distributional impacts of climate change mitigation e.g., how #carbon revenues affect #equity and #efficiency or key trends in employment resulting from the energy transition 📌Improving transparenvy of IAMs by using large ensembles of climate change mitigation scenarios for robust insights and upgrading IAM documentation Read the full report here 👉 https://lnkd.in/dFwc2n3q

Enjoy the reading 👀 📃📃 📌"Exploring Model-Based Decarbonization and Energy Efficiency Scenarios with PROMETHEUS and TIAM-ECN" A quantitative analysis of future #energy and #climate developments at the global level using PROMETHEUS and TIAM-ECN models to iprove the chances of meeting the Paris Agreement goals. The study looks at the effects of different assumptions around key model drivers, such as #carbonpricing , #technologycosts, and global #energyprices , within the context of stringent #decarbonization policies. The results underscore the role of carbon pricing in driving decarbonization forward and reveals that variations in technology costs and global energy prices shape model outputs significantly. The identified sensitivities and responses of the IAMs to key model drivers help policymakers refine their policy decisions and develop effective strategies aligned with the objectives of the Paris Agreement. 📌"Modeling Approaches for Residential Energy Consumption: A Literature Review" A detailed literature review of modeling approaches and techniques in #residential #energy use to improve how we assess and predict the #energyconsumption patterns of the sector. #Mobility, #electricaldevices, #cooling and #heatingsystems, #energystorage and #energyproduction technologies lie at the heart of the research. Energy retrofitting of buildings, their energy classification, and #labeling of electric appliances are also discussed. The research offers valuable insights for developing effective strategies to reduce #energyuse, facilitate #energyefficient renovations, and help promote a greener and more sustainable future in the residential domain. 👇👇👇

📢📝Second publication out – Energy Poverty and Just Transformation in Greece 📌Our research features as chapter in the book “Vulnerable Households in the Energy Transition: Energy Poverty, Demographics and Policies” and is conducted within the scope of three #h2020 projects – IAM COMPACT, #NavigateH2020 and #ECEMF. 📌We study the EU and Greek energy and #climatepolicy context and strategic framework for #energypoverty (indicators, alleviation measures, links with #incomeinequality) and assess the #socioeconomic and distributional impacts of the transition to #netzero by 2050 with GEM-E3-FIT general equilibrium model. The model is expanded to represent ten income classes differentiated by income sources, saving rates and consumption patterns. 📌We find that income inequality rises modestly across income classes as a result of the transition to #climateneutrality, with #lowincome households facing the most negative effects. 📌We also find that using #carbontax revenues as lump-sum transfers to support #household income on an equal per capita basis and reducing #socialsecurity contributions can boost #employment and scale down income inequality. Therefore, we show that it is possible for Greece to meet its net-zero targets by 2050 without compromising equity. 📌An important caveat of the analysis to be addressed in future research is that we have assumed - rather simplistically - that income distribution remains constant over time within deciles. Moreover, we will have to expand the model-based analysis to cover the recent increases in energy prices and the RePowerEU strategies, which are set to have great economic and distributional impacts in Greece and the EU overall. 📌Read the full study at 👉🏻https://lnkd.in/dkBeGXEq

🌊🌄The summer break is over, and we are back with fresh publications! 📌In our first research paper, funded by the NDC ASPECTS project, we explore climate-compatible development pathways for #India. 📌We develop three scenarios with different levels of #climatepolicy ambition and study the technology, emission, and socio-economic implications of each one: the challenges, i.e., stranded assets, loss of revenue as much as the opportunities that arise from energy sector restructuring, i.e., #jobcreation, energy import reduction, improvement of local environment and #humanhealth. 📌Our model-based analysis shows what a massive effort India has to make to #decarbonize its economy and move towards the #netzerogoals by 2070. It will have to restructure its coal-based electricity, industry, transport and buildings’ sectors, something that will affect immensely the production processes, trade balance, labor markets, and consumer preferences in the country. Decarbonization will be complex and require #systemicchange. 📌Our analysis also shows that the #lowcarbon transition would have only marginal impacts on aggregate #GDP by 2050, and that a #netzeroemissions economy would then be compatible with robust #economicgrowth. However, appropriate policy measures should be put in place to mitigate the (potential) negative impacts of the transition to specific regions, sectors, and households, to ensure a #justtransition and enhanced #socialequity.
