All the Lies

Rate this book
She thought he was the perfect husband. Now she’s running for her life.

On the surface, Amy and Jason have the perfect marriage, but Amy is trapped in a nightmare with a controlling, violent husband. Then on a short cruise without Jason, Amy befriends Liz, a young woman travelling alone on her way to meet her birth mother for the first time. Liz looks so much like Amy that they could be sisters.

When Amy regains consciousness after a terrible accident that takes the lives of many passengers, she finds that because of a mix-up in personal effects, everyone believes she is Liz. Only she knows it is Liz who has gone missing, presumed dead. Now, Amy has to make the most important decision of her life: tell the truth and return to a life of fear or become Liz for a while, until she figures out an escape plan.

But as Amy settles into Liz’s life, she finds that not everyone believes all the lies.

And she is only one mistake away from paying the price.

This was a short psychological thriller. It’s harder to draw you in when there are few pages, but I think the author managed to make you care about the main character. There was a lot of suspense and nail-biting. Perfect!

Did I read the same book as all the 5-star reviewers?

I was looking forward to this book because the plot sounded interesting to me. Where do I begin....The writing ruined it for me. I appreciate the perspective of an abused wife trying to escape her husband, but the author couldn't have made her any more weak if she tried. Amy was not some strong woman to look up to. I was embarrassed by her. I think my eyeroll count while reading this is about as many times as the word AMY was used. If you can get through the self-doubt, the constant pity-party, the gaslighting, and the unrealistic choices the characters make you'll probably love this book. Predictability aside, the twists could have been so much better.

One star for it being a fast read. One star for tricking me into thinking this was going to be a good book based on the summary.

I really enjoyed this audiobook! Skillfully narrated with a panoply of distinctive characters and accents by Lucy Brownhill. All The Lies is about Amy, a woman who is badly isolated and abused by her husband. He rarely lets her out of the house, but the one time he does….Amy sees a uniquely fortuitous chance — after a terrible accident and a mistaken identity — to escape her abuser forever. To do so she will have to create a whole new identity and lie to a lot of unsuspecting and very kind (mostly) people. Will it work? Or will her husband find her? And will she ever be able to tell the truth to the people she has come to love?

This book has great characters that were really brought to life by narrator Lucy Brownhill. Amy’s plight as a domestic violence victim is compellingly told, happening manipulatively over time and in increasing severity like the fabled frog in a boiling pot of water. You can’t help but like Amy, even though what she’s doing is kind of terrible.

I highly recommend this engrossing audiobook with great characters and suspense, and excellent narration! I’ll be looking for more from both this author AND this narrator in the future.

The TRUTH about ALL THE LIES:

This fast-paced, compulsively readable thriller shows readers that there is more than one way to exit an abusive relationship with a narcissistic psychopath.

TRUE FACT: Many of this book's plot twists were borderline predictable. Overall, however, ALL THE LIES was a compelling and suspenseful read with a likable protagonist. Right from page #1, I was instantly sucked into the storyline and found the book difficult to put down.

I listened to this book's audio edition and the narrator was superb.

This is my first book by Nicola Sanders and I will definitely be looking forward to listening to the author's future titles.

Absolutely fuming! After reading “don’t let her stay” which I rated an easy 5 ⭐️ I immediately decided to read “all the lies” and what a lie it was indeed! I have been duped, I have been led astray, run a muck, bamboozled and completely hoodwinked!
What the fuck was this book please?
A woman trying to escape her abusive husband, gets into a cruise accident, steals one of the passengers identity and then what exactly… it started off so well and sunk dipper than the cruise ship in titanic. Big sigh!

I feel that even reviewing this book is a waste of my time, but let's give it a go.

Amy is a ballet dancer, but unfortunately she suffers an accident that ends her carreer. She meets Jason, they fall in love, they get married, he abuses her. Amy can't really rely on anyone, because even her own mother adores her son in law and refuses to believe her daughter (misogyny much?).

The characters were flat and the choices they made were totally unreasonable. The whole plot is based on misogyny and it really doesn't make sense. There was no plot twist, since this is the most predictable book even. The whole 'happily ever after' at the end felt rushed and unrealistic.

There was not even one thing for me to like in this book.

P.S. I don't know why the writter needs to incorporate so much misogyny into her books. It ends up being comical.

WOW!!! 5 stars all the way! A great psychological thriller that captured my attention right from the start. What appears to be finding Mr. Right for Amy Logan after a tragic accident quickly changes into something totally opposite. Shortly after her marriage to Jason, Amy finds herself in a abusive relationship where she is becoming a prisoner in her own home. Catering to her husband’s every twisted demand and without success... Amy becomes desperate to find a way out. Once an opportunity to get away presents itself, Amy is all in! What happens next is a courageous attempt to get out, away from living in fear and regain one’s lost life.

The story progresses at a good pace with many unexpected twists and turns. The author also does a fabulous job with character portrayals and the difficult subject matter of spousal abuse. I actually had a hard time putting this book down! This was my first time reading Nicola Sanders and it will not be my last!

Thank you BookSirens & Nicola Sanders for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I have no idea what all the other people who read this book are raving about. I found the plot to be predictable, the characters stereotypical and, the book as a whole rather boring.

all the lies by nicola sanders.

after reading don’t let her stay last year, which is nicola sanders’ most recent release, and giving it only a single sad star, i didn’t have high expectations for this one.

however, it was short (215 PGS) and available for download on my kindle so i thought why the hell not! that was a grave mistake on my part. and honestly, i’m going to completely ignore that this has an average of 4.0 on here.

this thriller went from acceptable to YES! this is getting interesting to what the fuck? to just straight up comedy. when i tell you that the author built her entire plot around the most unrealistic premise i’ve ever encountered. you’re telling me this woman was imposing as a completely different person and no one thought to CHECK pictures? records? ANYTHING?! her entire face was on the tv, for God’s sake, and they didn’t RECOGNIZE HER? she’s RIGHT NEXT TO YOU!!! IN THE ROOM!!! make it make sense.

un-fucking-believable. i spent the first thirty percent intrigued and the last seventy questioning my choices.

however, the final plot twist was this experience’s saving grace. this was initially going to be a one (1.5?) star review, but the ending kind of delivered. my jaw dropped. if i ever read another nicola sanders thriller, it’ll most definitely be for their length and pace. this took me only three sittings.

This has a lot of physical abuse in it so that might be a trigger for some people. This was a good audio and I loved the narrative throughout the audio. Jason and Amy “appear” to have the perfect marriage but there are a lot of lies going on and revenge plays into the story. The twist at the end was out of nowhere!!! Wow!!! I wanted to listen to this story since I loved her newest book “Don’t Let Her Stay”. Can’t wait for her next book!

After reading the author's new release DON'T LET HER STAY, I picked this one up immediately after and was instantly sucked in again.

For a domestic thriller, the subject matter was particularly dark. When we're introduced to Amy and Jason, they seem to be the perfect couple, but we soon find out that Amy is trapped in the hell of domestic violence. Jason controls every aspect of her life, and she has no one to turn to, not even her mother, who seems to favor Jason more than she does her own daughter.

Amy's chance to escape comes in the form of a cruise she tells Jason she's taking with her mother. But Amy goes alone and meets two women who become fast friends; one of them, Liz, even looks like her and confesses that she's going to meet her birth mother for the first time. But after a ferry accident, Amy wakes up in the hospital with a mother who isn't hers. She realizes she's wearing Liz's jacket and has her personal effects and is assumed to be Liz. Could this be the way out of her abusive marriage to Jason, or has Amy gotten herself into an even worse situation with her new 'family'?

I'm eager to see what else that author produces! With just two books, she's already earned a place on my long auto-buy list. Available in paperback or on KU.

Pd. Lean Don’t let her stay, de la misma autora.

Honestly, I really enjoyed this story. I loved the plot and it was the perfect length for a thriller. The characters were decent. The twists were fun! It was the perfect binge.

So why am I trying it only 3 stars? Because as good as it was, it was SO predictable. I mean, not one twist caught me off guard. I guessed every single one way before it even happened. With that said, I’m a smidge disappointed and I was left wanting more. I wish the author tossed in a few more curve balls.

I still would recommend this book simply because I thought it was enjoyable. Great potential but didn’t blow me away! I do enjoy the writing style of the author so I would say this is close to a 4 ⭐️ book but not quite there. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Despite being so short, this book was hard for me to finish. It was a lot of anxiety and not in a good way.

Basically, the story is about a woman who was driven from one terrible situation to another. Amy has a controlling and abusive husband. To get away from him, she goes on a cruise. The cruise ship sinks and Amy takes on the identity of another cruiser who looks like her, and is on her way to meet her long-lost family. To get away from the husband she had to lie and pretend to be the other woman for a while.

There's a bit more to the story at the end, and everything can be summed up in a few more sentences. This is the main reason why I didn't like the story. There's really not much substance to it if you can sum up the entire plot in a small paragraph. You can read the description of the book from the cover, and that will keep you updated until the middle of the book. Yes, I was keeping track.

The second reason that I didn't like the book was that the main character had no agency, so it was hard to sympathize with her. She knew her husband was controlling to a creepy level but she just wanted to make him happy? She didn't think about escaping until her mother presented her with the cruise. When the other person's mother mistakenly identified her, she just went along with it. When she had to tell the truth, it was because she was discovered. She was guilty of lying and had internal struggles, but it would never be enough to drive her into action. It was always her being placed into precarious situations, and she just goes along feeling things. She has no agency looking from the outside.

Finally, I hate one-dimensionally terrible female characters. They are so infuriatingly bad that it's worse than the pure evilness of the male abuser. The male abuser is manipulative, but he's logically enough work for his own interest. But the female abusers, they protect the male abuser wholeheartedly, for what? It's annoying to have so many characters who are just simply vicious. It speaks more about the author's own experiences than the story itself.

It was suspenseful but not very exciting.

Zoomed right though this - what a rollercoaster. I was literally on edge the entire time but didn’t want it to finish! Such a well-written and fast-paced psychological thriller and I absolutely recommend it. It’s pretty short at 238 pages but managed to pack such a punch within those short chapters and was a real page turner.

After a life-altering accident, Amy meets handsome and wealthy Jason, and they quickly fall in love. However all is not as it seems. Fast-forward a year and her new husband is extremely emotionally and physically abusive, but she can’t tell anyone as Jason controls every aspect of her life. She has no money and no job and those who remain in her life believe Jason is the perfect man.

A chance opportunity arises for Amy to spend five days on a cruise ship away from Jason, where she would hatch her escape and plan a new life. Amy meets other lone travellers Barbara and Liz onboard and they form a friendship. Amy and Liz bare a striking resemblance to each other.

Tragedy hits the cruise ship. Amy wakes up to find she is in a hospital bed being comforted by someone who claims they are her birth mother. They think she is Liz. Finally, a chance for Amy to lead a different life away from Jason, at least until she can get back onto her feet. Taking another person’s identity is proving difficult though and there is only so long she can continue her amnesiac acts when asked about Liz’s life before the accident. Those around her are becoming suspicious.

Amy is still constantly looking over her shoulder. Is Jason still trying to get to her? Do those around her really believe she is Liz? Surely he wouldn’t be able to find her, right?

started off strong, lost its way in the middle and then the ending was far too abrupt.

At just over 200 pages, this was quite short for a thriller, and I think that leant itself to it all feeling quite rushed. On the whole I enjoyed the narration, the writing was still gripping and fast paced, but this was not as good as Don’t Let Her Stay and had quite a forgettable story

This book grabbed my attention in the first chapter. A woman married to a man that is abusive. It was a page turner for me because I really wanted to know how long Amy was going to keep up with the lie. I just wanted more from the end. Gave a bunch of details throughout the book but I felt like the ending could have gave us just as much details. Overall a really good thriller and I would highly recommend it 🤎

There is not one bad thing I can say about this book. I absolutely loved the ending it is one of those endings that you will watch the movie or read the book again just to get to it. I completely recommend this book if you love women’s fiction and thrillers.

When Amy meets Jason; who she thinks is the man of her dreams. She believes life couldn’t get any better. He’s rich, good-looking and best of all he loves her. One year later however she is plotting her escape. She is scared to tell anyone that Jason is controlling, abusive and worst of all, He’s on trusting and constantly Berates her For sleeping with other men and even her best friend Melissa. Amy is not want to lie to herself and knows she must get out. So when her mother comes to her and tells her that her best friend Yolanda couldn’t go on the cruise because her daughter was having a baby and she wanted to give Amy and Jason the cruise as a gift, Amy knows this is her one chance, Because her mother offered this after Amy wrote on a post it note so Jason‘s cameras couldn’t see, that Jason hits her and doesn’t give her money and to please help her. So because Amy’s mother has drank the Kool-Aid Jason gives her, she tells her daughter to go on this cruise and that Jason said she needs a break that’s she’s depressed and doesn’t take care of her self. Amy is hesitant but excited about the thought of finally getting away from abusive Jason. So when she tells him her mother invited her on the cruise and then her mother is not doing that well healthwise, but to please not say anything as a mother doesn’t want him to know. Because he such a great guy and would worry. Keeping up appearances of the dutiful son in law he graciously allows Amy to go. This is where the story takes a turn for one thing she needs Brenda and Liz who become very close friends because they are also traveling alone on the cruise. Not to mention the striking similarity she has to Liz. So when tragedy happens and she wakes up in the hospital, they tell her her mother is there to see her. She is confused now though because her mother is not plump she is little and skinny so who is this woman. She finds out it’s Liz‘s mother AN plays along pretending she has amnesia and trying her best to remember every detail that Liz shared about her life. This is where the best part of the story starts and man is it good.

Domestic thrillers are my reading pleasures and this one was filled to the brim with suspenseful drama:

Amy is a professional ballet dancer until a terrible car accident puts a dead end to that dream. Soon she meets the man of her dreams. Their whirlwind romance quickly leads to marriage. The first time he slaps her across the face, she figured he'd had a bit too much to drink after a long hard day. But soon enough she realises that her prince charming was actually a beast; the kind with sharp claws, a lashing tongue, watchful eyes, and a far-reaching and tight grip. He has her money and she feels trapped. How will she escape to a new life or will she die trying?

When amy sees a chance to reach out for help, she's turned down by her own mother--the woman adores her son-in-law. What she first sees as a life-ending failure is actually the perfect opportunity.

A massive twist of fate interrupts her getaway.

She realizes she's wearing Liz's jacket and has her personal stuff and is assumed to be Liz. Could this be the way out of her abusive marriage to Jason, or has Amy gotten herself into an even worse situation with her new 'family'?
