About Acid House
During the mid-1980s, acid house emerged as a genre in Chicago discos. Its name’s origin is debated, with one view suggesting it was coined to define the electro-psychedelic sounds produced by the Roland TB-303 sequencer. The first recorded acid house track was “Acid Trax” by Phuture. Acid House’s popularity grew in London, UK, with its repetitive beats, trance-like atmosphere, and Roland 303 sounds capturing the club scene’s attention. Acid house reached its peak in 1988, with the yellow smiley face becoming a symbol of the movement.
