Terrible Thrills, Vol. 1

Steel Train

About “Terrible Thrills, Vol. 1”

Terrible Thrills Vol. 1 is the companion album to Steel Train’s 2010 self-titled studio album where each of the songs from the original album has been reworked and re-recorded featuring vocals of some of the band’s favorite female artists.

In 2015, Steel Train frontman and songwriter Jack Antonoff released Terrible Thrills, Vol. 2, with the same concept of reimagining songs with female voices from his 2014 album Strange Desire under his solo project Bleachers.

In 2019, Antonoff released Terrible Thrills Vol. 3 which reworked songs from Bleacher’s 2014 album Gone Now in the same vein as the previous companion albums.

In a Billboard interview, Antonoff explained the reasoning and idea behind the Terrible Thrills compilation albums:

I wanted a project that sounded like the jumble that’s in my brain, […] I hear my songs being sung by females before I change them and make them into my voice. The whole heart of this idea is for people to hear the album the way I hear it in my head, reinterpreted by the artists who sort of inspired it to be written in the first place.
