FIELD Study Investigators

Prof William Stewart (Principal Investigator) MBChB, PhD, DipFMS, FRCPath. Dr Stewart is Consultant and Lead Neuropathologist (NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde) and Honorary Clinical Associate Professor (University of Glasgow and University of Pennsylvania) and has established research expertise in the biology and pathology of brain injury and its outcomes, with multiple ongoing research programmes supported by major national and international research funding agencies.

Prof Jill Pell (Co-Investigator) MD, FMedSci, FRSE, CBE. Prof Pell is Director of the Institute of Health and Wellbeing in the University of Glasgow and Honorary Consultant in Public Health. She has more than 20 years of experience using routine data and record linkage to conduct epidemiological research, and has published extensively using this methodology. She is  Director of Farr Scotland.

Dr John MacLean (Co-I) MBChB, MRCGP, DRCOG, FFSEM(UK), FRCPS(Glas). Dr MacLean is the Chief Executive of the Hampden Sports Clinic and Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Glasgow. He is also Medical Consultant to the Scottish Football Association and a member of the UEFA Medical Committee.

Dr Daniel Mackay (Co-I) PhD, PgCert, MSc, MA(Hons) is Reader in Public Health at the Institute of Health and Wellbeing at the University of Glasgow, with a background in applied statistics/econometrics. He has published a number of articles that use linkage methodology to answer public health questions and interventions, such as the effectiveness of bans on smoking and discounted alcohol sales promotions in Scotland.

Dr Katy Stewart (Co-I) PhD, FHEA. Dr Stewart is a Postdoctoral Research Scientist at Hampden Sports Clinic and Honorary Lecturer at the University of Glasgow. Dr Stewart’s current work focuses on mental health in football and player welfare.

Dr James Robson (Collaborator) MBChB, FRCGP, FRCSEd, FFSEM(U.K.), MCSP. Dr Robson is Chief Medical Officer Head of Anti-Doping and National Team Doctor for the Scottish Rugby Union.

Miss Emma Russell (Postgraduate student)  BSc, MSc. Emma started her PhD  in March 2018.
