Holiday time. Pretty sure Nature will get some bad reviews again. 1 out of 5 stars. Linkedin is getting emptier by the day. Everyone seems to be on holiday. I am sure some people will return disappointed, so I tried to imagine their horrible experience in nature. 7 life-changing Youtube channels for nature lovers Learning about nature doesn't have to be boring. It can also be fun. There is a time to read 600-page science reports, but I also appreciate a well-done YouTube video. Especially at the beginning of my nature journey, it allowed me to: ↳ Learn fast new insights about nature  ↳ Remember better (visual memory, right here 👋)  ↳ Get an idea of what I can do about the biodiversity crisis I am convinced these 7 will have the same effect on you, starting with my favorite: 🏆 # 1 Planet Wild - Not too long, not too short, entertaining, hopeful, learning something new every time, visually beautiful, well-researched, inspiring stories, empowering me to take action. Hands down, currently my favorite YouTube channel out there. # 2 TED - Not exclusively wild, but the nature talks from leading voices are excellent. # 3 BBC Earth - We don't have the BBC on TV here in France, so this is fab for longer watches.  # 4 National Geographic - Oldie but Goldie, still has amazing footage & stories. # 5 Biomimicry Institute - Nature is the best R&D department out there & inspiration for countless innovations. Here you can explore them all. # 6 Wisdom Keepers - Who better to learn from than the guardians of nature, the indigenous communities around the world? # 7 Nature on PBS: Rare sights & David Attenborough. Do I need to say more? (All links to channels in the comments) Planet Wild wins this round because they hit the Zeitgeist for me & I believe, an entire generation. (My favorite episode is "Searching for the World's Lost Frogs" because frogs are my mum's favorite animal & she has nurtured my wild spirit since I was a boy.) Silver lining here is, that we can stop & do the opposite. We frequently talk about the meteor event that wiped out life. 🤯 But have you ever heard of the Cambrian Explosion that brought life? It's a remarkable period in Earth's history, roughly 539 million years ago. During this time, there was a rapid burst of evolution & diversification of animal life. Many major animal groups that exist today first appeared in the fossil record during this relatively short span of about 10-25 million years. This event laid the foundation for the diversity of animal life we see today, marking a crucial turning point in the history of life on Earth. 👉 Do we approach another turning point? Nowadays, we love to talk about the doom. But it is equally important to talk about the bloom. Let's create our mini cambrian explosion & go from:  ✅ Exploiting → Restoring  ✅ Consuming → Conserving  ✅ Degrading → Regenerating This is a time in history when we still have a choice. Future generations won't be as lucky. So let's live up to this responsibility & turn us from being a meteor to a seed bomb. P.S. What do you think? 7 Hacks to find new species in your hood There are not just fantastic animals in Africa; some are right in front of your door. Lately, I have been incredibly lucky. 🤩 In the past weeks, I have seen: Black Woodpecker (see video) Cinereous Vultures Stag beetle &  My favorite European bird, the Eurasian Hoopoe! I get spoiled this summer & I am sure you can, too. 👉 7 Hacks that helped me in my search for new Pokemon... I mean wildlife: # 1 Airplane mode  I either leave the phone at home or put it on silence # 2 Look closer  I am not just looking for birds, but I am also going micro. Looking at leaves, bugs, and other things. Maybe this has widened my vision. # 3 No shoes  Walking barefoot helps me to pay more attention & be present. # 4 Identify  I love apps like Merlin or Seek that help to identify your local species & learn about them. # 5 Intention  I go out on many walks to find something new. # 6 Curiousity  Until 2 years ago, I just loved mammals. Since I expanded my curiosity to birds, fungi, insects & co. I have much more cool stuff to find. # 7 More time Making time in nature a priority definitely helped me. As a nice side effect, research has proven that spending 2 hours per week in nature boosts one's health and mental well-being. So go out and start exploring; your hood might be wilder than you think. BIG UPDATE: I stop my most expensive mistake, the Wildya app.   🧐 Why? ↳ I never managed to make it agile enough to iterate faster ↳ It never helped people as much as I hoped ↳ The angle didn't work ↳ I can't build it alone Winny, Rob & I took a full swing at it, but it wasn't enough. Everything has to come together in ecopreneurship when trying to build something that hasn't been done before. Because the odds are against you. Unfortunately, luck was not on our side, so we decided to follow up on other projects separately. Thank you, you two, for the ride. It was wild.   👉 What's next for me? A pivot ... 🥁 I finally listen to YOU & my gut and fully lean into my biggest passion: nature. So, instead of eco-anxiety, I am building a platform to empower you to create a wilder world. For the start, you will have: ↳ a community of people that all have the same passion ↳courses that transfer soft & hard skills ↳ events to connect & learn ↳ tons of useful resources A blueprint for how to go from someone who likes nature to someone who takes action to tackle the biodiversity crisis. We all can do our part & will help you to see how. ⏰ When will it launch? 31.07.2024 for all people that are in the eco-allies community. The bigger launch will be end of August. "Let's take the shame out of environmentalism & embrace the joy instead." Anne Therese Gennari It's hard to convince people to join our wild movement if we try to shame them into it. ❌ "How can you eat meat?" ❌ "What, you are still flying?" ❌ "Why are you constantly in front of your screen?" ❌ "Not ashamed of yourself for ordering again on Amazon?" Instead, let's show people how awesome the alternative life looks like. ✅ "I feel healthier & more energized since I am eating more veggies"  ✅ "Wow, this weekend, I did this amazing hike just 15km from here. I saw a cool bird." ✅ "I feel less stressed since I manage to walk daily 30 minutes outside." ✅ "I love my jumper. We made so many memories. I just got it fixed again. Good to go for another 5 years & next adventures." No one likes to be shamed or sacrifice things. But if we show that the alternative lets us live happier lives, people will be all up for it. The "wilder world" I never shut up about is not a future in which I see wildlife thrive & humans suffer. It's the opposite. If nature thrives, so will we because we are a part of her. We just forgot.
