Développement de technologies climatiques

A deeptech venture studio solving hard climate problems.

À propos

Marble is a climate tech venture studio solving hard climate problems. Our mission: bring us at least one gigaton closer to net zero and create a future that thrives. We do this by partnering with scientists, engineers and operators to build deeptech startups that slash emissions, remove carbon, and cool the planet. The climate crisis is the most pressing challenge of our times. Solving it requires breakthrough technology, as available solutions only get us halfway. We can’t put all our hopes in classic tech transfer. We need to intentionally create and deploy radical solutions for hard-to-abate emissions. Backed by top climate and deep tech investors, we're searching for individuals who could apply their skills to solve hard climate problems and who have the will to turn their skills into a new startup company. Joining as Founders-in-Residence, they work with us to scope high-impact climate opportunities and build ventures with massive impact potential. We invest in the best teams at pre-seed.

True climate innovation starts with people, not ideas. With 2023 about to become the hottest year on record, and uncertainty overshadowing COP28, it’s clear we need solutions now more than ever. We have to solve the hardest climate problems, the ones where available solutions are not enough - from heavy industry, to agriculture, to carbon removal, and more. The people we need to create and scale those breakthrough technologies are out there, but they need the right place to support them in taking their first step. Marble was built to empower scientists, engineers and operators to take this first step. We’re here to help them start, and to help them succeed. The tide can be turned on this crisis, and the time is do it is now. We need to not just hope for a climate resilient future, we need to build that future. We are building it.

Just arrived in London for the Breakthrough Energy Summit! If you’re there, come and meet our Founding Partners Benjamin Tincq and Jonny Everett to learn more about what Marble has been building the past couple years! We have really exciting companies soon coming out of stealth, and many more cool projects — clean fuels and chemicals, to geologic hydrogen, carbon removal, critical minerals, low capex energy, biomass, methane abatement and more. Looking forward to connect with great operators, follow-on investors, industry experts — and future hires we’ll soon add to the Marble team! Thanks again Meghan Ashley Taylor and Gaëtan for the invite! #climatetech #energy #deeptech

🇺🇸 Recently, our science associates Lipsa Nag, PhD and Walter Johnsen travelled to Dallas, Texas for the ARPA-E summit. Here are some of their takeaways on building moonshot startups that will address climate change: 1. Our decarbonization efforts hinges on low-cost and low-carbon hydrogen. Critical minerals are important for renewable energy generation, energy transmission, and energy storage. 2. Climate technology companies must provide a pain reliever not a vitamin. Deeptech ventures must address a pain that manifests in 5 years that isn’t necessarily visible today. 3. Pilot projects need to demonstrate commercial demand. Startups need to raise more cash than their container size. 4. There’s a capital gap in scaling climate tech. We must provide bridges to bankability through more non-dilutive and private sector financing. 5. Advice from founders and investors: Build relationships early. Everyone you meet can be a potential advisor, partner, hire, etc. 🔥 After ARPA-E, some areas we identified as particularly exciting: next generation solar, efficient thermal storage, new green chemicals and energy storage vectors, biomaterials for building insulation, and highly efficient grid transmission. 🚀 We are excited to partner with exceptionally motivated people who will build and scale these moonshots! ⭐️ Team Spotlight Meet Nadia our Talent Analyst, helping us build a world-class talent sourcing & acquisition pipeline! Before joining Marble she obtained a Bioengineering degree from UTEC, had internship experiences in leading institutions such as Sorbonne Université and University of Alberta, and is also actively developing a startup of her own - MikuyTec 🇵🇪 Being born and raised in Peru, Nadia worked hard in pursuit of her ambitions and paved a way for herself to succeed in competitive and challenging field that climate tech is today: “I was raised in a town where women were expected only to have children, and science was seen as "the devil's work." I left home at 14 to pursue a better education, moving through various cities and eventually different countries.” Nadia was always passionate about making a positive impact to the world, exploring everything from gene therapies to engineering microalgae for carbon fixation. At first she devoted herself to doing groundbreaking science in a lab as an academic; however, her drive for building faster, bolder and tangible solutions made her pivot into science entrepreneurship. 🧫 That’s how she started the first Peruvian synbio startup with the support of iGEM Startups, which eventually led to her discovering Marble. She joined us in 2023 as an intern, slowly growing into a full time position as an Analyst. If you’re excited about Nadia’s journey and interested in joining Marble as an intern as well, see our open positions below: Junior Programme Analyst → https://lnkd.in/dhH67EnW Junior Research Analyst → https://lnkd.in/d5e-tPst Junior Venture Analyst → https://lnkd.in/eHxdiNvj 🐣 Interesting fact about Nadia is that she had over 25 pets in her life and they are her main motivation to save the world!

⭐️ Interns wanted! We know that early stage employees are crucial for a startup's growth as they often wear multiple hats and contribute directly to key decisions - ultimately defining company's growth trajectory. That is why we also believe that hiring young professionals is important, as they get to grow alongside the company - bringing fresh ideas and getting hands-on experience. Marble and its portfolio companies are actively hiring a new batch of interns to join the team: 🦠 Centeon (Jerome) is a low-carbon chemicals company Bioprocessing Intern, 6 months, Paris, on-site (https://lnkd.in/dvB5_Qtr) 💨 Stealth (Silvia) - is developing cutting-edge technology for CO2 Direct Air Capture Biotech Intern, 6 months, Paris, on-site https://lnkd.in/dAGm_-_c Electrochemistry Intern, 6 months, Paris, on-site https://lnkd.in/dxXRXBm9 🚀 Marble - that’s us and we build climate companies! ⭐️ Meet Paul Mahacek, Co-founder and CEO of AtmoCooling! Together with Paul-Emmanuel Herve, they are working to transform coastal deserts into thriving hubs of agriculture, clean energy, and climate resilience. AtmoCooling’s patented technology replicates and supercharges natural atmospheric cooling to create large microclimates up to 15ºC cooler. After completing his undergraduate and graduate engineering degrees at Santa Clara University, Paul has worked as a Chief Research Engineer at Centre national de la recherche scientifique. He was then responsible for the avionics system of the Crew Dragon spacecraft at SpaceX, and was the Vice President of Engineering at OnePointOne, an indoor farming company delivering end-to-end robotic growing systems. ⚙️ Paul has had a ‘decidedly not conventional’ career path. His work has included environmental climate science in the Arctic and Antarctic and helping put people into space. From his two decades of engineering experience, Paul was certain of one thing: Developing new, scalable technologies to mitigate and adapt to climate change is the best legacy he can provide to future generations. He also shared why he decided to work with Marble and what he gained from this experience: “There are so many ways for startups to fail. The early support from Marble meant that we instantly had a team of experienced founders and technical staff helping us avoid pitfalls, quickly move through analysis, and choose the right tools to get us where we needed to go.” 🚀 AtmoCooling is currently operating its second field site to continue scaling up the technology. They just opened a new branch in the UAE and are seeking funding to add to their already fantastic team. Paul’s advice to other scientists thinking of taking a leap into entrepreneurship is: “Look into market needs. Then… build diverse teams, iterate quickly, embrace uncertainty, and persist with passion.”
