💳 Corporate Cards in Egypt 🇪🇬, one of Jérémy Goillot's favorite business challenges (#Spendesk) Egypt is and will remain one of the largest economies in the MENA region: 111 million inhabitants and millions of businesses. Swypex raised 4 million with Accel and launched the first Corporate Card that REALLY works in Egypt. You cannot imagine how complex it is for businesses to access a credit card and a bank account in Egypt… Stellar team tackling a challenging problem. Congrats Ahmad Mokhtar, Tarek Mokhtar, and Sasan Hezarkhani! Exciting to be on this journey with you.

🧡 YC W24 x KARA VENTURES ! We got our orange ticket. Last week we were invited for the 1st time as official partners of YC for W24 YC Demo Day. It's a big thing for young tech angels fund. How did we get our ticket? Our best guess is that YC's algorithm picked up our names as we invested in Capi Money, Cleva (YC W24), and Triply.co in 2023 before their acceptance to the program. Did we fly to SF for the event? No, we attended virtually, but we can't wait to discover the new YC campus in the Dogpatch - Réna Kakon is super excited about it as she lived in this neighborhood almost 10 years ago when the only cool place was the 3rd Street Boxing Gym. Worth attending? 100%. You learn a lot about trends. The energy level is unmatched, even virtually. Valuations? Startups are over-hyped and it's extremely competitive to get in the rounds, 70% of founders I connected with closed their rounds before the end of the first day. I haven't seen a valuation below $16M post, even for freshly baked pivots. It's just a different world. YC brand is still very strong and Silicon Valley is still attracting incredible talents. Amazing!! Our crush? MathDash - online math competitions. Think of a mix of chess.com and Duolingo with a math Olympiad twist. Excited about the impact it could have for Africa's young talents. Next time, in person with Jérémy Goillot and Réna Kakon!

Dear Kara Ventures Community, We Wish You a Fantastic 2024 💫 Let's continue to dream big together. In 2023, Jérémy Goillot 〽️ & Réna Kakon pushed forward their vision for a night and weekend tech angels fund investing in early-stage startups in Africa! → We organized 2 events in Paris to create a community of African Tech enthusiasts. → We spent time in Egypt, Namibia, Zambia, Morocco, and South Africa. → We improved the website, produced some content for founders, and improved SEO. → We have invested massively in our Stack to automate our job, looking forward to presenting AfricaX to you. → We received 723 decks this year! We still need to improve our ability to respond quickly. In 2024 we want to invest in Morocco, South Africa, Zambia, and Nigeria, in AgriTech, CleanTech, HealthTech, and Fintech. Bring it on!!
