The Coastal TALES project, “Telling Adaptations; Living Environmental Stories for Coastal Resilience” led by the UNESCO-MOST BRIDGES Coalition (UK) Hub at University of Wales Trinity Saint David asks: How can stories of past practices help people (re)discover more sustainable ways of living in their rapidly changing coastal environments? The goal of the project is to show how heritage stories can generate tangible local action that diverse communities can draw on to adapt to a changing climate. We use a transdisciplinary approach, building on the knowledge and agency of local communities in dialogue with academic expertise across the spectrum of humanities and sciences. Deputy Executive Director of UNESCO-MOST BRIDGES Coalition, Luci Attala explains how the Coastal TALES project is “a lovely example of what the UNESCO-MOST BRIDGES Coalition is doing to gather up local expertise and knowledge in support of understanding the adaptions being innovated on the ground as conditions change.” Executive Research Development Officer, Gareth Thomas, commenting on his fieldwork experience on the project explains “One of the most captivating aspects of this project is its focus on the ancient practice of coracle fishing, a tradition deeply rooted in the coastal regions of Wales.” Read Gareth's fascinating article, which “delves into the life of a coracle fisherman, showcasing how the Coastal TALES project is working to preserve this unique cultural heritage.” https://lnkd.in/eBWtz5Z4 UNESCO Belmont Forum ASU College of Global Futures Trinity College Dublin Heritage Research Hub #collaboration #collaborativeresearch #sustainabilityscience #culturalheritage #CoastalTALES #sustainabledevelopment #BRIDGESCoalition #coproduced #communityengagement #heritagestories #coastalheritage #coraclefishing #preservingheritage #transdisciplinary #localadaptations
