The National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) Heidelberg  DKFZ  welcomed Josep Tabernero MD, PhD Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO), Chairperson of #CCE, as part of his strategic plan to visit the different CCE centres. 🎯 The purpose of these trips is to introduce the consortium, meet with the various teams at each institute, and foster future collaborations between the centres. Key discussions included: 🔹An overview of NCT, about Cancer Core Europe, and the latest updates on CCE's working groups. 🔹 NCT Molecular Precision Oncology Program, correlative studies within CCE #BasketofBaskets study (BoB).  🔹 Patient-Centered research and involvement 🔹 Clinical trial activities, infrastructure, and potential joint activities 🔹 Digital oncology, integrated data approaches, #AI The encounter also allowed the commission to visit NCT’s facilities, including the Heidelberg Ion Beam Therapy Center. ✨ Thanks to the entire NCT team for the warm welcome. 💥 Presenting Maximilian Kordes 💥 A clinical oncologist specializing in early clinical trials with a focus on gastrointestinal cancers. Max works at the #Phase1 Unit within the Cancer Theme at Karolinska Universitetssjukhuset and is also a postdoctoral researcher in Oscar Wiklander’s group at Karolinska Institutet . Within #CCE, he is part of the Clinical Trials (CT) and Translational Research (TR) pillar and interested in developing academic and grant-sponsored collaborations. Professor Andreas Trumpp presented his research on the advancements in #StemCell therapy, spanning from insights into clonal hematopoiesis, acute myeloid leukemia, and neuronal interactions in pancreatic cancer to innovative #CancerTherapies. 🔬 His findings captivated over 90 attendees from various #CCE centres and beyond. The #BasketofBaskets (BoB) trial is a modular, open-label, Phase II, multicentre study designed to evaluate targeted agents in molecularly selected populations with advanced solid tumours. On the 2nd edition of the AI for Oncology Congress, chaired by Arsela Prelaj and hosted by Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori di Milano, attendees were able to explore how AI is shaping the landscape of oncological care, from diagnosis to treatment planning and beyond. #CCE members had an enlightening involvement in the conference during the imaging session, where Raquel Perez-Lopez Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO)  and Mireia Crispin Cancer Research UK Cambridge Centre offered insightful presentations on AI, radiomics, and imaging, while Jakob Nikolas Kather DKFZ German Cancer Research Center National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) Heidelberg  shared his knowledge and experience in digital pathological imaging. Meet the #CCE Partners 💥 This time we introduce you to Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori di Milano 💥 🔬 INT is a government-designated centre for treatment and research, committed since 1928 to cancer treatment, clinical and basic research. It is a leading cancer centre in Europe (5th ranked in Europe according to the 2024 ranking) and the foremost cancer research and care centre in Italy as per the Ministry of Health’s classification, based on quantitative annual evaluation criteria that include an assessment of scientific outputs, healthcare activities, productivity indicators and networking capabilities.    🎯 Research is shaped along 4 lines: early diagnosis, primary and secondary prevention; precision medicine and technological innovation; rare cancers and complex conditions; clinical, healthcare and outcomes research and big data / AI. ⭐ 650 out of the 2200 people working at INT are devoted to research. In 2022, 822 clinical studies were ongoing, involving more than 18,000 patients and a budget of 60M€ was available for the conduction of research activities, of which a significant portion stems from the 140+ research grants ongoing at the Institute. 🏥 For healthcare aspects, the INT is a national and regional reference centre and hub for most common cancers and for rare cancers, including rare adult solid cancers, haematological neoplasms and paediatric cancers. INT manages 18,000 admissions per year and more than 1,200,000 consultations.  🎓 A high priority is also given to education and training, with 45 MDs undergoing their medical residency at INT, along with 30 PhD students.     👥 INT is highly active on the international scene. The Institute is a full member of Cancer Core Europe since 2018 and an accredited Organisation of European Cancer Institutes (OECI)  centre since 2015. INT researchers have roles in working groups in a variety of scientific societies (OECI, ESMO, EAPC, ESO, pathology-specific networks) and in three European Reference Networks: EURACAN, PaedCAN and GENTURIS. 32 research grants are EU-funded, 6 with INT in a coordinating role in particular in the context of EU4Health, Horizon Europe and importantly, the EU Mission on Cancer.
