We're still buzzing after our #EthCC workshop with Project Liberty! 🎉 We invited three decentralized communities - Kleros, MakerDAO, and DSNP - along with a selected group of experts, for a participatory session to explore governance solutions based on our recent publication, "The Governance Toolkit." In the afternoon, we expanded the conversation to a broader perspective with fruitful dialogues between Web3 practitioners and policymakers from the European Commission. These discussions tackled critical issues and opportunities in decentralized governance. The day felt like a significant step forward in realizing BlockchainGov's mission: using our research to actively participate in the design and modeling phases of decentralized networks, giving life to new and exciting areas of experimentation 🌐 Thanks to all the partners and participants for making it such a special day 🙏

Proud to see Jamilya Kamalova presenting one chapter of her PhD thesis at the European DAO Workshop on Blockchain-Based Dispute Resolution Platforms 🙌
🌍 Excited to share that I recently participated in The European DAO Workshop (DAWO) in Winterthur, Switzerland on July 4th-5th! The event focused on exploring the challenges and opportunities of Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs). 💡 During the workshop, I presented on a topic close to my heart: "Bridging Innovation and Regulation: Towards Regulatory Equivalence for Blockchain-Based Dispute Resolution Platforms." This presentation is a chapter of my thesis that I am very excited to be working on. 📢 Call for Experts in Regulation and Dispute Resolution! As part of my thesis, I will be organizing a Delphi Method focus group, aimed at exploring and advancing the fields of regulation and dispute resolution. This approach seeks to gather the valuable insights and expertise of professionals like you through structured interviews and expert opinions. If you are interested in participating or have any questions about this initiative, please reach out!! And last but not least - a big thank you to the organizers! DAO Workshop (DAWO24) Looking forward to continuing these important conversations and collaborations! #Blockchain #DAOs #Innovation #Regulation #BlockchainTechnology #DisputeResolution #DAWO2024

🐚 Blockchain Technology and Polycentric Governance We are happy to present the final version of our Research Report on Blockchain Technology and Polycentric Governance, authored by Primavera De Filippi, Sofía Cossar, Morshed Mannan, Tara Merk and Jamilya Kamalova. The report analyzes the evolutions of blockchain networks through the lenses of polycentricity. 🌀 Polycentric governance systems are characterized by multiple autonomous decision-making centers with overlapping areas of responsibility, which both compete and cooperate within a common overarching system of commonly agreed-upon rules, spontaneously or deliberately generating a shared social order. 🚀 Excited to share that I had the incredible opportunity to present at the 7th Workshop on The Ostrom Workshop (WOW7), which happens every five years! This year's topic was dedicated to -- Commons, Polycentricity, and Democracy -- foregrounds the challenges of managing commons and public goods, as well as advancing globally shared goals for sustainable development and the peaceful management of existing and frontier resource systems, at a time of accelerated and conflicting social, environmental, and political changes. 🎤 My presentation, titled "Dispute Resolution for Blockchain Commons: Applying Ostrom's Principles to the Governance of Decentralized Networks," explored how Ostrom's principles of managing commons can be applied to digital commons (blockchain peer-to-peer systems). The presentation aimed to seek feedback on the paper I'm currently working on, demonstrating the wide array of dispute-resolution tools available in blockchain ecosystems (Kleros, Unicrow, UMA , and many more) and highlighting innovative methods for governing and resolving conflicts in decentralized networks. Grateful for the insightful discussions and feedback from my colleagues! https://lnkd.in/d38533cG #WOW7 #Blockchain #Decentralization #Governance #OstromWorkshop #Research #Innovation

In 2018, we explored cloud communities. Fast forward 5 years, digital innovations have further shaped global governance. Welcome to the BlockchainGov and European University Institute online symposium on New Network Sovereignties, featuring Primavera De Filippi, Vitalik Buterin, Michel Bauwens, Nathan Schneider, and more to come! This online symposium examines how communities use digital networks for self-governance, decision-making, and collective action, creating additional layers of sovereignty alongside traditional nation-states. The symposium is structured as a series of interventions by scholars and thought-leaders that will be released through the summer, creating an interdisciplinary dialogue. 1) Primavera's kick-off essay introduces the concept of New Network Sovereignties. Primavera explores the distinct features and motivations driving these new entities, emphasizing the importance of governance instead of territorial control. https://lnkd.in/dJ7hFx46 2) In dialogue with Primavera, we have none other than @VitalikButerin dissecting the idea of Network Sovereignties. Vitalik distinguishes among free city-states, satellite towns, exiles, and nomads’ sites. https://lnkd.in/dG_jaFv6 3) In the third essay, Michel Bauwens asks whether we are witnessing the emergence of a new civilizational order blending local and trans-local governance. https://lnkd.in/dEYQEASQ 4) Nathan Schneider motivated by Michel and Primavera, takes us on a journey through the history of religions & monastic orders to imagine network sovereignties as spaces for the aesthetics and ethics of solidarity. https://lnkd.in/dEbcD2_a Stay with us over the next few weeks as we explore critical questions around New Network Sovereignties. These are themes also being explored in gatherings like ZuBerlin or EdgeCity. Get ready!
