Sunday Night Waiver Wire & FAAB Chat

7:31
Jeff Zimmerman: Welcome.

7:32
Jeff Zimmerman: A note. Over the next two weeks, this chat might move times or not happen. I will try to let everyone know. Next week I have a friend coming through on a cross country trip and I’m not sure when he’ll be here.

7:33
Jeff Zimmerman: The next week, I have a wedding to go to. There is a good chance the chat doesn’t happen that Sunday as a drive back.

7:33
Jeff Zimmerman: Here are the winning bids from the three 15-team mixed Tout Wars leagues.

7:34
Jeff Zimmerman:

7:34
Kelly: Scherzer available in my 15 team NFBC. Max bid approved?

7:35
Jeff Zimmerman: It’s time to implement some game theory and see who you can out bid and other outbid you. Same will happen with Wood next week.

7:35
Bill: Would you use Wesneski vs PHI and LAA this week?

7:35
Jeff Zimmerman: If I have him, probably. It always comes down to other options.

7:36
Chet Lime: Do you see Johan Rojas getting full time AB’s for the next few weeks?  Desperate for steals and I’m down to Rojas or Gelof.

7:37
Jeff Zimmerman: You have one week and then the short week. Not sure after that

7:37
Kenny: Do you believe in Kiner-Falefa breakout?  Drop Schneider for him?

7:37
Jeff Zimmerman: IKF has raised his launch angle and just hitting line drive. Roster IKF just based on the playing time difference

7:37
Joey: Wesneski Ceconni Birdsong Weathers. Any worth rostering ROS in 15 teamer?

7:38
Jeff Zimmerman: Wesneski and Ceconni, yes. Weather yes when healthy. I don’t think so with Birdsong

7:38
The Batman: I’m in a quandary. I’m in a 12 team 5×5 and I’m doing very well in pitching across the board but my hitting is a nightmare outside of runs and SBs. I have a little under 40% of my FAAB left. And yet, Max Scherzer is available. Do you bid heavy on him any anyways, or do you hold knowing you’re going to need that money elsewhere?

7:40
Jeff Zimmerman: Is Wood available next week? Wait on him for sure. I’d hold off going all in for Scherzer and use the money to stream hitting

7:40
Steve: Drop Polanco for Massey or Rodgers?  Redraft, season long.

7:40
Jeff Zimmerman: Yes this week with KC in COL.

7:40
kuff6: Mercado now officially named for PHi and getting a 2 step vs CHC and ATL. Does that move him up your list at all from this morning?

7:41
Jeff Zimmerman: No, I’m not sold he’s a good pitcher. It could be a nice week to bench and monitor. You’ll have two starts to evaluate him next week.

7:41
Seanold: 15 team NFBC roto league, Noelvi is available. What do you think he’ll go for?

7:42
Jeff Zimmerman: It’ll depend on the FAAB left. People should and will use the hammer. Bids could be as high as $500+

7:42
Chet Lime: Do you trust Carraso (home v. Chisox, Giants) or Hayden W (home v. Phils, Angels) in the double dip next week?

7:43
Jeff Zimmerman: Wes over Carrasco. I usually lean talent over schedule

7:43
Ed M.: OK, what are we expecting from James Wood ROS? Worth using 30% of my remaining FAAB on him? I could use the offense…

7:44
Jeff Zimmerman: Again, I think hammers will be dropped for Wood.

7:45
Jeff Zimmerman: What I mean by hammer is that say the person with the most FAAB has $500 and the next person has $400. The person with $500 will spend $401 and be guaranteed to have Wood.

7:45
Troy: Should I drop Burleson in order to add and stream B Rodgers this week?

7:45
Jeff Zimmerman: I would not

7:46
Bob: prefer MJ Melendez or Luis Campusano as backup C rest of season? Points league. Thank you!

7:46
Jeff Zimmerman: Neither … MJ but I don’t like it.

7:47
Troy: Concern level for L Gil after his last two shaky starts?

7:48
Jeff Zimmerman: I don’t have him but I didn’t know he was that bad. I have him as a 6.00 ERA talent over the past three weeks.

7:48
Jake Sliders: Worth holding Jackson Holliday still? My team is doing well, so holding him is a luxury at this point. The other options are a bunch of the guys in your waiver wire piece.

7:48
Jeff Zimmerman: Where is he going to play?

7:48
Jeff Zimmerman: Your waiting for an injury

7:49
Eddie: Drop Bleday for Noel or Kjerstad or hold tight? Bleday has been an adequate bench bat for me but upside is tempting.

7:49
Jeff Zimmerman: I might make the move to go for upside

7:50
Chief Noc a Homa: Is Kikuchi done? Need a roster spot and he’s the weakest. 12-team QS league.

7:50
Jeff Zimmerman: Far from looking at my projections. I’d hold

7:50
BLC: What do you make of Schwellenbach? His Stuff+ / Location+ are around average, and he has a SIERA under 4.00? Team streamer or waiver wire fodder in 12 team leagues?

7:51
Jeff Zimmerman: He’s likely a hold in most formats, even 12’s

7:51
Marte: drop the hammer in a 12tm for Marte too?

7:52
Jeff Zimmerman: Someone will. Marte’s bid might be tempered since it’s just one position. In a couple leagues, I don’t have room for him

7:53
Counterpoint: Re: Spiers — isn’t a low strikeout pitcher with a summer full of games in Cincy playing with fire?

7:53
Jeff Zimmerman: I’d prefer a low walk guy so the home runs are solo shots. He’s not ideal but one of the few decent available options.

7:54
JT: i am in 1st place, but may be over valuing Steer, mostly because of positional flexibility, am being offered L. Robert Jr or Langford foe him, is that a good deal

7:54
Jeff Zimmerman: Make the Robert trade

7:54
Michael: Would you drop N.Marte or J Ortiz for Vientos?

7:54
Jeff Zimmerman: I could see it.

7:55
A.: Keep Rice or drop for E Diaz? 12 team, obp

7:55
Jeff Zimmerman: Hold Rice

7:56
Maris9: What to think about Helios Ramos rest of season? Paid a bit too much I’m afraid.

7:56
Jeff Zimmerman: I don’t see any reason to sell

7:56
nfbc12s: 12 team james wood was drafted so hes available. does he go for 200?

7:56
Jeff Zimmerman: In a few leagues, I’d go full hammer. $200 might be the 4th place bid

7:57
HappyFunBall: My first half pitching has been horrific. Lost Strider and it’s been a challenge cobbling together what I think should be a good enough staff for the second. Will Gallen, Houck, King, Steele, Bradley, Olson, and J. Irvin get it done in a 12xMixed?

7:57
Jeff Zimmerman: Maybe. I’d just keep trying to add to the bench to stream as much as possible

7:58
For Scherz: you go triple digits for Scherzer in an OC?   Or save those big bids for Ray, Springs, etc?

7:59
Jeff Zimmerman: It’ll take triple digits for Scherzer and I’d just go ahead and get the arm to use

7:59
Big Spender: How do manage a roster with no FAAB (can do 0 bids). Hold struggling guys with upside bc I won’t get them back if they get hot? I should make the playoffs so I can hold and hope they get hot in Sep.

8:00
Jeff Zimmerman: The team holds players more and will need huge bid lists to make sure to get a player you want.

8:00
Alex: Garrett Mitchell back tomorrow, anything there in a 12 teamer?

8:01
Jeff Zimmerman: I’m not sure how much he’ll play

8:01
Jeff Zimmerman: I’ve added to the bottom of lists but not a priority

8:01
Guarding the Native: How much are you bidding on J Noel if you have 300 FAAB left, in first and 1st in HR and RBI? 15 team nfbc

8:02
Jeff Zimmerman: $1. He he doesn’t help your team, why add him

8:02
Eric: Wesneski and kikuchi available.. go after  one of them in my 14 team?

8:02
Jeff Zimmerman: Kikuchi first and then Wes

8:03
Chris: Is Skenes the 1st SP drafted next year?

8:03
Jeff Zimmerman: No

8:03
Troy: If you want me to run the chat while you’re at the wedding, just say the word.  I got your back!

8:03
Jeff Zimmerman: Thanks for the offer

8:03
Ed: I need to trade one of these OF to fill a hole in my lineup. Who would you trade? Burleson, Happ or Chourio

8:03
Jeff Zimmerman: Chourio

8:04
Kevin: Hi Jeff, in a head to head points league who you think has more upside for rest of season. Johnathan India or Matt Chapman. thanks

8:04
Jeff Zimmerman: Chapman

8:04
Tim: Hunter Goodman has seven home games this week but has sat three daughters vs. RHP. Is he a hold to see if he regains PT during the home stand or a safe drop? The WW options are uninspiring, Higashoika, Rortvedt, Naylor lead the list

8:04
Jeff Zimmerman: Hold during the home stand

8:05
Miguel: Assuming cost is the same, who ends up being a better waiver pickup ROS and why: Shane Baz or Robbie Ray? 10-team roto league, pitching categories are Ws, ERA, WHIP, Ks, SOLDs

8:05
Jeff Zimmerman: Baz for me

8:05
Catcher ROS: An ascending Patrick Bailey or this platoon version of Ryan Jeffers?

8:05
Jeff Zimmerman: Bailey right now

8:05
Izzy: Is Buxton back to being legitimately good again?

8:07
Jeff Zimmerman: Might be. His bat speed is up since coming off the IL.

8:07
Jeff Zimmerman: I need an easy way to show the improvement but it’s over 1 mph

8:08
LTB: Don’t think this went through the first time… Need a 1B replacement for Harper next week. Best options are Vientos, Santana and COL (Goodman/Toglia).

8:08
Jeff Zimmerman: Vietos

8:10
Pitch Poor: Thanks for the chats. Really helpful. In a deep league, where would Cannon, TMyers, and Schwellenbach fall on your list this morning?

8:10
Jeff Zimmerman: I would rank the three, Schw, Cannon, Myers

8:12
Chief Noc a Homa: Good article today, Jeff! Thanks!

8:12
Jeff Zimmerman: Thanks

8:12
James: Hi Jeff. Have been holding on to Max Meyer for 3 weeks. Would u cut bait to pick up in your order any of Arrighetti/Rogers/Festa/Mercado  Thank you

8:12
Jeff Zimmerman: I’d drop for Festa

8:12
Ben: Hi Jeff

8:12
Jeff Zimmerman: Hi Ben

8:13
Ben: Jeff,  Mikael Garcia or Caballero and is it close?

8:13
Jeff Zimmerman: Garcia based on playing time.

8:14
Bump Wills: Is Evan Carter picking up he was dropped in my league Thx!

8:14
Jeff Zimmerman: No

8:15
Guest: Michael Harris: Disappointing, and now injured probably through the break. Are you holding and hoping, or cutting?

8:15
Jeff Zimmerman: holding

8:15
Mr B: Finally drop taveras and stream that spot ROS or would you stick with taveras and ride it out. Playing time is just atarting to thin even though he’s been hitting better and stealing more

8:15
Jeff Zimmerman: I’d stream the spot.

8:16
Gates Brown: Which DL stash SP do you have the most hope for ROS?  Kershaw, Springs, Snell, Ray, DeGrom, not a stash but Baz?

8:17
Jeff Zimmerman: I like the guys coming back first. If they are good, roster them. If they struggle go add another stash

8:17
CMG1227: Thank you for doing these.  I look forward to them every week.

8:17
Jeff Zimmerman: You’re welcome

8:17
DJ: chase the 2 step of Peterson or long term upside of festa?

8:17
Jeff Zimmerman: Festa

8:18
Jeff Zimmerman: Brb

8:18
HappyFunBall: Give or take age, aren’t J. Noel and M. Sano more or less the same player?

8:19
Jeff Zimmerman: Marte will steal some bags

8:19
Bryan: Better hitter going forward Nathaniel Lowe or Carlos Santana in OBP League?

8:19
Jeff Zimmerman: Santana for now

8:19
Stash spot: More impact this year? Brooks Lee or Junior Caminero

8:19
Jeff Zimmerman: Lee

8:19
Good Wood?: After rookie hitters have struggled so hard this year, should we be controlling ourselves a little bit on James Wood?

8:21
Jeff Zimmerman: I expect there is a chance he fails but for teams who need an offensive boost. Wood is their best chance to turn around their season.

8:21
Vader: Hi Jeff! Thanks so much for the weekly Waiver Wire Report, it’s the best read of the week! I see you like old man Carlos Santana this week, but my H2H league still has a few other good bats available and I’m just looking for a hitter, so I was wondering how would you rank Vientos, Burleson, Josh Smith and C Santana?

8:21
Jeff Zimmerman: Burleson, Smith, Vientos, Santana

8:22
Mike: Is Brooks Lee worth a stash now.  Seems like he should hit for average with some power, but maybe not enough to move the needle.

8:22
Jeff Zimmerman: Maybe

8:22
Caminero Canyonero: Is Caminero worth holding on in a no NA spot OBP 12 Team 4-Keeper league?  If not, who should I replace him?  3B position is trash this year.

8:22
Jeff Zimmerman: No

8:22
JZ: Should we expect cheaper bids this week in NFBC FAAB with everyone saving for Wood next week?

8:23
Jeff Zimmerman: I think those with the most cash will hold while the other might get good deals with everyone else waiting

8:23
Terrible: Better chance of being worth a crap by September – Buehler or Montgomery? Or 2 lost seasons?

8:24
Jeff Zimmerman: Lost seasons

8:24
Ben: In 15s is Jo Adell a cut? He’s been really bad (until he homered today)

8:24
Jeff Zimmerman: Possibly. The WW options are thin. I’m trying to move on in some 12’s

8:25
Rusty: Should I be concerned about Hoskins or is this just a slump? Also, if you had to choose between Ober & Pepiot in a QS league, who would you pick?

8:25
Jeff Zimmerman: I’m not worried about Hoskins. Ober over Pepiot

8:25
Acid: Eloy Jimenez. Been holding for 5 plus years. Is it time to move on?

8:26
Jeff Zimmerman: Yes, he lost 2 mph off his swing from before the injury to now

8:26
Jeff Zimmerman: That’s it for tonight. I have bit more FAAB to check this week.
