Peter Rabbit movie casts James Corden, Daisy Ridley, Rose Byrne

It’s official: Peter Rabbit is hopping from books to the big screen.

Sony’s Columbia Pictures has officially announced that it’s adapting Beatrix Potter’s beloved children’s book as a live-action and CG film. As reported last month, Easy A director Will Gluck is helming Peter Rabbit, with James Corden set to star as the titular rabbit.

Rose Byrne is also on board to play the live-action role of Bea, and Daisy Ridley and Elizabeth Debicki have joined the voice cast in unspecified roles.

Rob Lieber (Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day) wrote the script with revisions by Gluck. The Australian studio Animal Logic, best known for its work on The LEGO Movie, is handling the animation.

Columbia is working on the film with Frederick Warne & Co. of Penguin Random House UK, which first published The Tale of Peter Rabbit in 1902. This year marks the 150th anniversary of Potter’s birth.

“I am delighted to be teaming up with Frederick Warne,” Gluck said in a statement. “Their expertise and stewardship is absolutely critical to making a film that honors the legacy of Beatrix Potter.”

Production is set to begin in January 2017, with Peter Rabbit hitting theaters in April 2018.
