Arrival trailer: Amy Adams has a close encounter

Earlier Tuesday, we got a first glimpse at photos from Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming alien drama Arrival, introducing Amy Adams as an accomplished linguist named Louise Banks. Now, the unsettling first teaser has landed on Earth.

Based on Ted Chiang’s 1998 sci-fi tale Story of Your Life, Arrival chronicles the sudden appearance of a mysterious fleet of spaceships. When these enigmatic ships touch down on Earth, the government assembles a team to unravel the mystery, including Adams as Louise and Jeremy Renner as physicist Ian Donnelly. Louise’s task is to determine where these aliens came from — and why they’ve set their sights on Earth.

“There are days that define your story beyond your life,” Louise says in the trailer. “Like the day they arrived.”

Villeneuve (Sicario) directed from a script by Eric Heisserer (Lights Out). Arrival is set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival later this year, before hitting theaters on Nov. 11.
