  • Women in Work Index - Insights from Middle East and North Africa (MENA)

    PwC

Diversity in the workplace can drive financial performance. Boosting the number of women in work is not just a moral imperative but also has a measurable impact on the bottom line. This is the conclusion of a growing body of evidence that is persuading companies and governments around the world to act.

Diversity in the workplace can drive financial performance. Boosting the number of women in work is not just a moral imperative but also has a measurable impact on the bottom line. This is the conclusion of a growing body of evidence that is persuading companies and governments around the world to act.

Our Women In Work Index - Insights from MENA survey of more than 3,000 women and men across the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and Egypt provides insights on the regional workforce and where we can improve gender diversity. This information can help policymakers in the public and private sectors to create tailor-made initiatives to foster diversity.

The three countries we surveyed have varying histories of national programmes to boost the number of working women. There is high awareness and support for such initiatives, showing that timely government intervention is often welcomed.

Our research shows that 66% of all respondents believed that governments should intervene in private-sector companies and set targets for gender diversity.

While it’s encouraging to see governments putting in place initiatives to improve diversity in the workplace, leaders need to prioritise and take action to close the gender gap to make a real impact.

  • Workforce of the Future: Middle East Edition

    PwC

The nature of work is changing, and our workforce around the world needs to change and adapt to new demands and opportunities. The nature of work is changing, and our workforce around the world needs to change and adapt to new demands and opportunities. Digital upskilling is a hot subject now, whether you are just joining the workforce or have plenty of professional experience. As people’s life expectancy grows (babies born today are expected to live until the 2130s), a greater portion of the workforce will find it’s no longer sustainable to retire at 65, opening up new opportunities for work and skills learning much later in one’s life.

What does this mean for the future of work? What measures should we as workers of the future take to future-proof our jobs and our skills? How can companies unleash great performance taking into account all the challenges mentioned above?

This report builds on various PwC global surveys including Preparing for tomorrow’s workforce, today*. In particular, it builds on the Future of the Workforce study released in late 2018. This Middle East edition of the study examines the findings of that report and delves into further analysis in the Middle East, and how this region compares to global averages. What are the things that are important to us in the region? Do we have similar or different levels of readiness when it comes to confronting workforce challenges in the future?

  • Public Sector Readiness in the Age of Disruption

    World Government Summit

The world today is undergoing a period of unprecedented change, brought about by global ‘megatrends’ which include changes in demographics, shifts in global economic power, large-scale urbanization, natural resources scarcity and climate change, to name a few. The world today is undergoing a period of unprecedented change, brought about by global ‘megatrends’ which include changes in demographics, shifts in global economic power, large-scale urbanization, natural resources scarcity and climate change, to name a few. But by far the most dramatic changes are happening in technology, digitization and science, where the disruption is exponential. Government and public sector organizations find themselves at the epicenter of this ‘perfect storm’, and have to re-think what it means to lead in an age of disruption. Crucially, they need to do so while regaining the public’s trust, which seems to be in decline in multiple places around the world.

In an environment where the sands are constantly shifting, public sector organizations have a critical role to play in serving their citizens by balancing the opportunities created by disruption (e.g. technological advancements such as the Internet of Things), alongside the threats created by the very enablers of these opportunities (e.g. cyber-terrorism).

This study highlights the seven key imperatives to achieve public sector readiness in this age of disruption, and can be used as a ‘playbook ’for leaders to successfully navigate through these challenging waters. How ready is your organization to adapt? Use our Public Sector Readiness Index located at the back of the paper to understand where you are in this journey.
