The architect Louis Kahn explored in his work the mystical nature of space and light, of form and matter. And we pay him tribute with Louis. Our new catenary linear lighting system for urban settings. We promote urban living spaces that evoke the relaxed feeling of home. Light gives a scene nuance, and frames it. We are defined by spaces which they teach us to coexist. A light embraced by its shade. Louis blends into space. Video by Studio Aranda Santos

Via Laietana’s new respectful lighting Via Laietana, part of the Cerdà plan (1859) for the Eixample of Barcelona, directly connects the new district with the port, cutting through the old city. Completed in the early 20th century, its architecture is highly valuable, with buildings listed as cultural assets of local and national interest. Historically, Via Laietana has been occupied by vehicles however the avenue is undergoing a transformation to become a friendlier, greener space for citizens. The lighting project respects the architectural heritage and historical context. Luminaires are positioned on facades as elegant, neutral elements, optimising pedestrian space and using detailed analysis for their placement. In squares and open spaces, the lighting is complemented by tall columns and adjustable spotlights, directing light where needed. Additionally, to respect light privacy inside homes, devices were designed to shield the light, preventing backward light emission and reducing light intrusion. Spring came with two special US visits. We had the honor of receiving our partner from the US Landscape Forms together with some lighting designers from the country. From walking around our headquarters at Parc de Belloch to exploring Urbidermis Belloch Forestal’s tree nursery, we shared how we approach responsibility. We also manipulated and experimented light with our products. Finally, we ended our tour with a visit to Barcelona to learn more about its architecture and urbanism. Thank you all for coming. It has been amazing meeting you and sharing knowledge and experiences. We believe the photos speak for themselves, capturing the memories we created together. David Silverman & Associates, Inc., HLB Lighting Design, Collaborative Lighting LLC (Adam Kibbe), Design Workshop, Essential Light Design Studio, Architectural Lighting Alliance (ALA), Gandy² Lighting Design - G2LD, Lighting Associates, Inc., CM KLING + ASSOCIATES and Hartranft Lighting Design. Special thanks to Landscape Forms for making this happen. This would had not been possible without all of you Jordan Agustin Tim Bray, Erin Pohlmann and Angela Saladino, LC. We hope you all felt at home. Hope to see you soon. Raquel Viña Villasante Eva Parés Lluís Trujols Vilahur

Earlier this month, Kathryn Gustafson was interviewed by Urbidermis & Belloch Forestal to talk about how the relationship between spaces and people “is not only functional but also emotional”. Urbidermis has said “talking with Kathryn is understanding first-hand how it feels to make a place yours. To appropriate it. The way she explains each project and talks about the places is simply the living example of that connection.” Kathryn says, “the goal [for any Project] is that your landscape becomes part of people’s lives”. The Barcelona based company Urbidermis has built a reputation for innovation in urban furniture.
