Curriculum Vitae

Current Position
Associate professor in optical spectroscopy of quantum materials, University of Amsterdam. Coordinator of the Advanced Matter & Energy Physics track in the MSc. Physics & Astronomy.

Expertise
My research group uses spectroscopy to probe the collective response of quantum matter. Currently the focus is on the optical properties of cuprate high Tc superconductors, complex oxides and transition metal dichalcogenides. The experimental expertises in my group are:

  • Infrared Fourier-transform optical spectroscopy
  • Magneto-optical spectroscopy
  • Scattering scanning near-field optical microscopy (sSNOM)
  • Photothermal infrared microscopy
  • Angle Resolved PhotoEmission Spectroscopy

I have executed more than 40 beamtimes at the Swiss Light Source, BESSY-II, Soleil, Elletra and Diamond Light Source synchrotrons and currently serve on the proposal review committee for the Swiss Light Source.

Education

  • 2021: Senior Kwalificatie Onderwijs, University of Amsterdam
  • 2015: Basis Kwalificatie Onderwijs, University of Amsterdam
  • 2003–2009: Ph.D in experimental Physics, University of Geneva
  • 2001–2003: M.Sc. in theoretical physics, Leiden University

Teaching
I have taught various courses at the BSc. and MSc. level. In recent years, I have contributed to the BSc. program at UvA with Condensed Matter 2 and Emergent Energy Materials in the AMEP master track.
