Business spin-off

[edit]

@DigitalIceAge Great timeline! I have two comments: the "IBM PC business spin-off" that sounds a bit weird. Yes, it became an autonomous unit within IBM, but this description suggests it was spun off by IBM entirely. I'm not yet sure what would be a good short wording that makes this nuance clear though. Also, should the acquisition line be linked to the relevant article? PhotographyEdits (talk) 11:27, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Yeah I had difficulty wording that legend on account of making the timeline narrow enough to fit on a smartphone screen in without the browser rendering it past the viewport. I took a stab at rewording it, tell me what you think.
I wish I could link to the Lenovo–IBM PC business acquisition page, but unfortunately it seems like it's currently impossible to link to pages from within the Legend field. DigitalIceAge (talk) 15:22, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think that is a good rewording! Sad that it's impossible to link from the Legend field, maybe that is something worth filing a bug report for. Thanks for now! (I might look into creating such a timeline for the ThinkPad line as well...) PhotographyEdits (talk) 12:50, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I was just thinking of making a ThinkPad timeline, but I know that would get messy pretty fast. Perhaps it would require splitting across year ranges or sub-models. If you start the timeline I would be happy to help you populate it. DigitalIceAge (talk) 18:48, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have been thinking about making something like this on Wikipedia, possibly with some more columns for specs: https://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkPad_History PhotographyEdits (talk) 12:14, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
