Common name

[edit]

Would this template be better with common names either entirely or as the alternative? Regards, SunCreator (talk) 15:13, 4 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Emys

[edit]

How is Emys duplication to be resolved? Regards, SunCreator (talk) 15:13, 4 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Now resolved with a note. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 19:59, 4 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Subspecies

[edit]

Is it correct to include the subspecies? Regards, SunCreator (talk) 19:59, 4 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Subspecies again

[edit]

Moved from Talk:Painted_turtle

The lack of the aforementioned Red-eared slider on the above navigation template reminds me that it properly should include the subspecies, although there are a lot of subspecies to have on that template and it's not like there is even balance of them. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 00:23, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Do subspecies usually have their own article? Is it unrealistic to want to merge all subspecies articles into their species?--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 00:30, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Depends...The box turtle subspecies each have there own articles, some quite extensively(Ornate box turtle). The painted turtles and the Emys subspecies don't have any articles. For the Slides some subspecies have articles(Yellow-bellied slider, some are empty stubs(Trachemys terrapen terrapen some don't have an article at present. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 00:42, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Mm...I think it's fine to leave all the subspecies out of the navbox lest it become a spreadsheet of italicized scientific names. Besides, each species article should really provide links to the subspecies within it.--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 01:03, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've updated the template to common names instead of scientific names for the species. You may have to press Ctrl and F5 to reload the template(as it maybe loading an old version from your browser cache), Regards, SunCreator (talk) 01:26, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it's been like that for a few days no? I was just thinking some of the subspecies may not even have common names.--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 01:30, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Started adding common names 12 hours ago. I know all the common names on subspecies everything except the extinct Gyremys sectabilis(which is a species not a subspecies anyhow). All sliders, all Emys, all Box, all painted turtles :-), known. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 01:59, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, okay.  :-)--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 02:08, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that it's better to leave subspecies out; the navbox is large enough already. You might want to make separate navboxes for each of the species with notable subspecies. Otherwise, I don't see a lot of problems. Ucucha 03:00, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That's a good idea, species with multiple subspecies get their own navbox. Thanks for coming out Ucucha.  :-) NYMFan69-86 (talk) 21:26, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
