What Does This Mean?

[edit]

I found this symbol "†" next to certain insects Michael has discovered. Do you think the symbol "†" means those insects are extinct now?--204.14.188.246 (talk) 15:10, 15 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Chiswick Chap (talk) 11:25, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Removed them. Probably copied and pasted from somewhere, and editor didn't bother to tidy them up. Bibby (talk) 21:32, 6 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
My edit has been rightly reverted, they represent extinct taxa. Bibby (talk) 22:34, 6 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Insufficient References

[edit]

Does this article have sufficient inline references? If so, the two tags should be removed. If not, please add more references.--Dthomsen8 (talk) 18:00, 24 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I saw this too: the article is fully-cited. I have just removed them. Chiswick Chap (talk) 11:24, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Continuing Conflict of Interest

[edit]

The other tag, on WP:COI from 2010, unfortunately seems to be correct. A considerable number of the additions to the article have been made by IP accounts which are close to SPAs, for example this one in 2009 edited only Engel, his colleague David Grimaldi, List of people from Kansas, List of entomologists, and a few insect-related articles. A similar editing pattern continued in 2012 and 2013; and it was still continuing in 2020–2022. I've popped a note on the most recent of these IPs. Incomplete bibliography

[edit]

This is a strange Section heading / topic! Usually we might find a Section called Publications such as for this page Thomas Dyer Seeley. I don't see how this helps a page, especially as there appears to be a WP:COI.

Unless there is an objection from a existing registered Wiki editor I will go ahead and delete this Section? Bibby (talk) 21:26, 6 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'll replace it with a 'Publications' section for his two books, which be of interest to Wiki visitors. Bibby (talk) 22:12, 6 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've replaced the section entitled "Incomplete bibliography" with the section "Publications" with a sub-section "Books". This leaves it open to other wiki editors to add other (the most relevant or greatest interest to the widest audience, etc.) types of publications, such as research papers, I can think of a couple which I will add shortly. Newspaper articles and journal interviews, etc. might also be other good sub-sections for here as well. Bibby (talk) 16:28, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
