– WP:PRIMARYTOPIC per following,

  • Oppose There's multiple other places at Matara, so having that as the dismabig page would make spotting incorrect incoming links easier. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 10:14, 4 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Even within Sri Lanka, it's arguable whether the city (population about 74,000) rather than the district (population about 800,000) is the better candidate for primary topic. Add in the notable places in Eritrea, Peru, and on Mars, and the case for there being any primary topic of Matara is insufficient IMO. Andrewa (talk) 04:50, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Andrewa: With all due respect, Google trends thoroughly disagree with your argument. I have demonstrated above that Eritrean city receives less traffic both on and off Wikipedia. Peruvian city is a red link, therefore the notability of it cannot be ascertained. Cheers--Chanaka L (talk) 06:09, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This misses the point in several ways. Primary topic requires that all other meanings be considered together, including the other one in Sri Lanka. And there are several criteria, not just measures of traffic. There is no reason that we cannot assess notability of the Peruvian city, or other places by that name of which there are several listed in Spanish Wikipedia. But your point that the Peruvian city is a redlink is valid. The policy is that all we really need to consider here are the other articles currently in Wikipedia. My referring to these other places is just to point out that we can save ourselves some work later on. To ignore them for now does not improve Wikipedia. See es:Matará. I do not read Spanish, do you know the populations of any of the places in Peru? Andrewa (talk) 07:49, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
