Rename or Merge or leave alone?

[edit]

I'm currently in the process of overhauling the List of pinnipeds article to match the rest of the "species" lists for Carnivora (List of canids, etc.). That includes adding a section on prehistoric pinnipeds, which ends up mostly duplicating the bottom 2/3rds of this list (I have the general time period of the fossil instead of the namer, but the same species/genera). So, normally I'd just make this list redirect there, but this isn't exactly a 1-1 match, because it's not really just "fossil pinnipeds", it's "fossil pinnipedimorphs". So, should this list be renamed to "List of fossil pinnipedimorphs? Redirected to the main list? Or just left well enough alone? I'm leaning towards renaming, but I didn't want to do it unilaterally since it appears you're still maintaining it somewhat, 4444hhhh. --PresN 20:10, 27 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I'm going with rename for now, pending a broader way to deal with the fossil species that aren't in a modern family group, such as these pinnipedimorphs. --PresN 23:06, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hey there! Just noticed the message now. The renaming is fine, and I had took quick look at that list you made for the list of pinnipeds. From what I understood the original intention of the article of just for recent species, though I am always down for fossil taxa to be included! Be careful of the PaleoDatabase as they are known to not exactly be the most reliable source at times.4444hhhh (talk) 04:49, 27 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
