The Faulkner - Holly Springs connection

[edit]

The 2010 New York Times story cited in this article (footnote 24) has been challenged in a peer-reviewed academic journal: "Confabulations of History: William Faulkner, Edgar Francisco, and a Friendship that Never Was" by Jack D. Elliott Jr, The Journal of Mississippi History, July 4, 2013. https://www.mdah.ms.gov/new/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/JMH_Winter2012.pdf The charge of fabrication is made on the following website: https://www.theawl.com/2014/04/the-faulkner-truthers/

While the New York Times has not issued a retraction, the claim of a secret friendship between Faulkner and Edgar Francisco's father is too controversial to be included in a Wikipedia article as a simple fact. I have deleted it. HowardMorland (talk) 04:15, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Magnolia677 removed Spires Boling from the article despite a source noting a monument to Boling being added to the local cemetery by a renowned University of Georgia emeritus professor and Boling's having designed several of the towns most famous buildings. I've been reverted twice and they instructed me to discuss here so there you go. He was also the slave master for Ida B. Wells family.FloridaArmy (talk) 14:27, 17 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:WikiProject Cities/US Guideline#Notable people suggests that:
"To be included in a list of notable people, individuals must still meet the notability requirements per WP:PEOPLE. A fast and easy way to establish this is if they already have an article written about them on Wikipedia, since it would have never been approved, or would have been deleted, if they did not meet notability requirements. This is not the sole rationale for inclusion, since some people who might meet notable standards may not have an article, but it is a quick reference. If challenged, additions without their own article should be removed and discussed on the talk page of the city, until a consensus is reached".
I would not included Spires Boling without an article, as the biographical details about Boling in reliable secondary sources appears a bit thin. However, this is quite detailed. Magnolia677 (talk) 14:40, 17 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I was unable to find his obituaries on Newspapers.com. He does sound like an interesting person, but obviously we need to retrieve more RS first.Zigzig20s (talk) 14:46, 17 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
FloridaArmy, you can create an article on him in draftspace, I can move to main, and we can re add him to the article. ~EDDY (talk/contribs)~ 14:57, 17 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Draft:Spires Boling is coming along. User:FloridaArmy, can we lend a hand? My photos...I didn't know Boling was the architect! Magnolia677 (talk) 22:42, 17 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
