Merge Proposal

[edit]

I suggest to merge this article with Local Governance in India.--Mschiffler 03:54, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. This article discusses the local governance structure and states and territories of India. Therefore, I believe moving contents of this article to relavent articles and merging this with local governance or states and territories will enrich those articles and limit fragmentation.Sumanch (talk) 06:20, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm in the process of reorganizing the material now. This article is an overview article, and should probably remain in place and use the standard Wikipedia:Summary style for splitting articles. The Transhumanist 08:40, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

this page have some problem with the links like Divisions of Assam again show the Administrative divisions of India

list are

Divisions of Assam Divisions of Tamil Nadu Divisions of West Bengal (Bengali: bihag)

some states are missing in the above list Saurabhmittal (talk) 09:44, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mistake?

[edit]

You know, I'm not Indian, but I think there's a mistake on the map. Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh appear to be reversed. Could someone who really knows this check it out? If it's correct here, it's wrong on their respective pages. Bruxism (talk) 09:00, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also, West Bengal doesn't show or is misplaced. It should be where 28 is. Ferred (talk) 15:48, 22 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Unencyclopedic commentary

[edit]

Please do not revert my cleanup without discussion here. Rambling, ungrammatical, lengthy, confusing commentary from some unknown non-authority does not belong in a reference work. See WP:NOR and Wikipedia:Point of view. Thanks for your cooperation. Jsorens (talk) 18:51, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Needs some more divisions

[edit]

Please add details about other subdivisions in india. For example, Out growth, Kanungo Circle, Patwar circle, Grama Panchayat, Panchayat Union, etc., Thanks.-தமிழ்க்குரிசில் (talk) 13:32, 1 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sub districts

[edit]

I am confused various types of sub districts. The formation subdistricts in various states is not clear. I think, in land matters a mandal is made of some villages, similarly a circle or a tahsil made of some mandals, a subdivision is made of some circles or tahsils and a district made of some subdivisions. Jammu & Kashmir

[edit]

If the Administrative units of Pakistan is being forced to mention that Kashmir is disputed territory, why is this article not mentioning it? Since I am banned from editing Indian articles, someone kindly add the information to the article. Jammu & Kashmir should be clearly labelled disputed as is in the Pakistani article. Fair is fair. -PAKHIGHWAY (talk) PAKHIGHWAY (talk) 12:20, 6 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Broken ref

[edit]

@Dhruv edits Ref #18 is broken. Could you fix that? — DaxServer (t · m · c) 10:43, 17 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@DaxServer Fixed it. Dhruv edits (talk) 11:06, 17 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Multiple problems

[edit]

1. The diagram at Tiers of India shows Blocks below Subdistricts.. which is incorrect. From the example it looks it was meant to be Sub-divisions which are different from subdistricts in most states. The confusion seems to be originating from the missing/incorrect definition of subdistrict.

2. A section on subdivisions is missing. They are below districts and above Tehsils/Blocks.

3. Coming to subdistricts of India, Tehsils of India are part of the Revenue administrative hierarchy usually headed by a tehsildar. Taluks, Mandals and Revenue circles are equivalent entities in that hierarchy. Community development blocks are part of the Developmental administrative hierarchy. What a subdistrict of India is different for different states, some states use community development blocks, some use tehsils or their equivalents, some use subdivisions and Odisha uses Police Station jurisdictions. I suspect Subdistricts are actually statistical entities defined for the purpose of Census. RamSeraph (talk) 09:59, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
