Lamon Dezjon Archey (/lʌmn/; born April 9, 1981)[1][2] is an American actor. He is known for the roles of Mason Wilder on the CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless (2012 to 2014), Eli Grant on the NBC soap opera Days of Our Lives (2017 to 2022, 2023, 2024), and D'Angelo Carter on The CW series All American (2020 to present).

Early life

[edit]

Archey was born in Daly City, California and raised in San Mateo by his grandparents.[2][3] He played baseball and football during his first two years of high school.[1] He was an only child and he has described his younger self as an introvert. Archey saw his mother sporadically because she moved often, but he developed a strong bond with his grandparents.[4] He had very little contact with his father, who died when he was 20 years old.[5]

Archey graduated from San Mateo High School.[6] After graduation, he worked as a carpenter and installed hardwood floors for two years. In 2001, he decided to move to Los Angeles and live with his uncle. He spent about ten years working as an emergency veterinarian technician.[4][6][3][7][8]

Career

[edit]

Less than a year after moving to Los Angeles, Archey was approached by a modeling scout while attending a job fair.[2][9] He eventually landed modeling jobs for Macy's, Gap Inc., Kohl's, Armani and Dolce & Gabbana. In 2004, he was chosen by Beyoncé to play her love interest in the music video for Destiny's Child's "Cater 2 U".[6][7] He credits modeling with helping him break out of his shell.[4]

Archey's manager, Michael Bruno, advised him that if he took acting classes, he could get him a job on a soap opera.[10][4][9] He was cast in a short film, Let's Get Laid! (2010).[10] Archey also appeared in television commercials for Chase Bank, McDonald's, and Gap Inc.[6] After about two years of acting classes, he was ready to give up. He finally booked two episodes as an under-five on Days of Our Lives, playing Centerville Cop in 2011.[10][3][9]

In October 2012, Archey was cast in the recurring role of Mason Wilder on The Young and the Restless.[11] His first air date was December 12, 2012. Archey made his last appearance on the show on January 7, 2014.[8][9] In 2013, he had a recurring role on Diary of a Champion.[2] He starred in The B Word, a short film about bulimia nervosa.[12]

In 2016, Archey made guest appearances on Cooper Barrett's Guide to Surviving Life and 2 Broke Girls. He had a recurring role on Roadies.[6][2] He appeared in the film The Woman in the Red Dress.[13] He also narrated the television film Dope Boys.[2]

In December 2016, Archey returned to Days of Our Lives in the newly created contract role of Eli Grant. The character is the grandson of Julie Olson Williams (Susan Seaforth Hayes).[14] Archey's first air date was February 23, 2017. The character of Eli was paired romantically with Lani Price (Sal Stowers).[15]

In 2017, Archey played Vince in the television film Can't Buy My Love.[1][16] In 2020, Archey guest starred as D'Angelo Carter in the season two finale of The CW series All American.[17] In December 2020, it was announced that Archey would reprise his role in season three in a recurring capacity.[18] He continued to make recurring appearances on the show in seasons four, five, and six.[19]

In 2021, Archey played Eli Grant in Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem, a spin-off miniseries streaming on Peacock.[20] In June 2022, it was announced that he and his co-star, Sal Stowers, would be leaving Days of Our Lives. His last air date was in early July 2022.[21] Archey made return appearances to Days in 2023 and 2024.[19][22]

He appeared in the Lifetime film Every Breath She Takes (2023).[23]

Personal life

[edit]

Archey has 12 tattoos. They include his son's names, his dog's name, his nickname (Mone), a Native American band, a dragon, a ram (for his astrological sign, Aries), a tribal band, the number nine, and the earth on fire.[24]

He is the cousin of screenwriter Robert J. Poole, who wrote the film The Mack (1973).[10]

He has a son, born in 2002, from a relationship with a woman whose name is undisclosed. In 2003, Archey met Mercedes Cornett at a fashion show. They began dating three years later and eventually became engaged. They had a son, born in 2009, and a daughter, born in 2012.[25][26]

In January 2023, Archey announced his engagement to Kristen 'Krissy' Terry. She is the marketing director for a California law firm and owns a marketing consulting agency. She also owns TerryFit Recovery, where she works as a licensed sports therapist.[27][28] Archey and Terry first met when he tore his rotator cuff and she helped him with his physical therapy.[19] They were married on March 25, 2023 in a formal ceremony at The Garland hotel in North Hollywood.[29][30] They announced the birth of their daughter in August 2023.[31]
