Women in Mining Utah is devastated by the untimely passing of founding member and former Vice President, Rebecca Bweupe-Siwale.  Rebecca was a proud and loving mother of 3 beautiful daughters, who are left on their own in her absence. A fundraiser has been established to help support funeral costs in the United States and her home country of Zambia: https://lnkd.in/grAaqc8X Rebecca served as the Head of Digital Services for FLSmidth, where she managed a team of 90 individuals globally. Rebecca's passion for the mining industry was present in every facet of her work.  In 2022, she was named a WIM100: a prestigious award honoring influential women in the mining industry: https://lnkd.in/ejEnbn9M She has held leadership positions within WIM UT and SME-supporting the I&D Committee, WAIMME, the Women of SME, and many others.  We are so grateful to have had Rebecca touch our lives and support us in our journey. On International Day of Women in Mining tomorrow we pay tribute to an exceptional woman and leader in the industry, Rebecca Bweupe–Siwale, our dear colleague and friend who tragically passed away last week.    A passionate metallurgist, Rebecca was an inspirational role model who advocated relentlessly for more women in this industry. She was recognised for this work in 2023 by Women In Mining UK (WIM UK) and was included in their list of “100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining”.    Rebecca’s extensive mining career began in copper mines in her home country of Zambia where she experienced first-hand how innovative technologies and a skilled workforce can make a difference on the ground.  She later pursued an international career in the U.S. When Rebecca joined FLS 12 years ago, she brought with her an invaluable skillset and touched the lives of so many with her leadership, expertise and kindness.     We are left with fond memories and a sense of gratitude that we had the opportunity to know and work with Rebecca. We will do our part to carry her legacy forward, contributing to the innovative and inclusive mining community she worked tirelessly to build.   Our thoughts are with her family, especially her three daughters who were the joy of her life. 

How to align successful global teams: This was the focus yesterday when we hosted AmCham Denmark’s Leadership Mentoring Program for a breakfast workshop at our HQ in Valby. Participants gained valuable insights from our own Joshua Meyer, President of the Service Business Line, who shared his extensive experience and unique leadership journey. He emphasized the importance of understanding cultural differences with his mantra: “It’s not good. It’s not bad. It’s just DIFFERENT.” This approach helps navigate the complexities of leading in diverse global environments. Henry Zinglersen, CEO at Mindlab Global Solutions, also contributed with real-life scenarios that highlighted the significance of recognizing and understanding cultural and personal differences within teams, especially post-global M&A. On Monday, May 29, FLS celebrated the start-up of a new production line at our partner foundry in Peru.    Fundición Chilca S.A. - FUCSA (Página Oficial) is expanding their state-of-the-art facilities to support FLS' production capacity. With this new production line, we have expanded our capabilities in mill lining to help meet the growing demand of the mining industry.  Special thank you to all those who were involved in the opening event, and we look forward to enabling successful customer operations with this new production line. #FLS #Mining #MillLiners #Foundry

An exciting visit from Grenoble Ecole de Management!   We were delighted to host a group of bright students from Grenoble Ecole de Management, organized by the French Embassy in Denmark. The main objective of their visit was to explore Copenhagen's innovation ecosystem and engage with key players in this renowned technology cluster.   During their visit, we had the opportunity to showcase FLS' role in the rapidly growing mining industry and how we challenge the status quo with our innovative solutions focused on sustainability, safety, and efficiency. This week, I was back in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to discuss everything mining related and celebrate the opening of our new office in Dammam.   Minerals and metals are pivotal to achieve the goals of the Kingdom’s #Vision2030. And it is clear no effort is spared in unlocking the full potential of mining, both domestically and abroad.   Witnessing the Saudi commitment to growing the industry responsibly and harnessing state-of-the-art technologies was truly inspiring. At #FLS, we are uniquely positioned to support this ambition!   To our customers who graciously welcomed us and our dedicated team on the ground, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude.   Looking forward to building upon the valuable insights gained from this trip and to our enhanced collaboration.

This week, we recognize International Biodiversity Day 🌿 and World Environment Day 🌍, each focused on taking care of the world around us and aligned with our strong commitment to sustainability. The theme for the International Day for Biological Diversity in 2024 is “Be part of the Plan” emphasizing the collective effort required to halt and reverse the loss of biodiversity while world environment day focuses this year on accelerating land restoration and drought resilience. On this occasion we want to put the spotlight on ICMM and its members’ work to contribute to a nature positive future that promotes the health, diversity and resilience of species, ecosystems and natural processes. The mining industry exists because of nature. And while minerals and metals are key to meet the SDGs, this cannot be at the expense of nature. As rightly put by Hayley Zipp from ICMM: "We’re an industry with negative and positive impact, let’s maximise the positive!". Great to be back at the EU Raw Materials Summit in Brussels!    Our VP Mining Strategy Hans Christian Kenn went on stage to discuss how Europe can secure the critical minerals its needs for the dual energy and digital transition and Europe’s reindustrialization.    The #CRMAct is a major milestone but it needs to be empowered through investments. “Europe needs to put money where its mouth is” was Hans’ key message.   Financing is essential to ensure projects realise both within and outside Europe. Investments should be tied to high ESG standards and the use of best available solutions. We should leverage European industry including Europe’s mining technology leadership in partnerships with third countries   He also emphasized the need for a change of narrative around mining so that we do not only gain public acceptance but public demand for mining projects. “Car manufacturers, the energy sector, governments should proactively support this ambition”.   Thanks to all fellow panelists and moderator for a thought-provoking discussion!    #rawmaterialssummit #missionzero #FLS #sustainablemining
