Marius Pedersen A/S secures local green energy on Funen from Better Energy’s Fraugde Solar Park through a 10-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) 🚛☀⚡ The environmental company, Marius Pedersen A/S’ PPA with Better Energy, means the company will offtake new green and subsidy-free electricity from the newly established solar park. 💬 “We are a company that works with waste recycling and circular economy, and we constantly aim to develop and achieve new sustainable goals,” says Jens Mortensen, Chief Innovation Officer at Marius Pedersen A/S. 💬 “Therefore, we want to support the green transition and use green power for our energy consumption in all aspects of production. It feels absolutely right.” Marius Pedersen A/S operates several facilities on Funen, close to the 74-hectare solar park outside Fraugde. Mikkel Thorup, Senior Director of Power Purchase Agreements at Better Energy, is pleased that a local company will consume the power. 💬 “I am very pleased when we succeed in making agreements with companies with significant local impact, as Marius Pedersen A/S has had for many years. The choice to purchase new green power directly influences the energy transition we are in the midst of.” When the solar park is grid-connected by the end of September, it will deliver around 81 GWh annually, corresponding to the average annual electricity consumption of approximately 51,000 Danes, or almost 30% of Odense’s 180,000 residents. 👨👩👦☀ Read the press release: https://lnkd.in/dV3m729K

Great article in DANVA‘s brand new magazine #DANSKVAND on our coming Viuf-Håstrup Solar Park with quotes from Mayor of Kolding Kommune Knud Erik Langhoff and our own Jakob Sønderskov Weber, head of citizen involvement at Better Energy. In the picture Knud Erik Langhoff and Esben Billeskov visit the site of Viuf-Håstrup earlier this spring. See more in DANVA’s shared post (in Danish) or find the translation of the post below: 💧🌱EVERYTHING CALLS FOR GREEN MULTIFUNCTIONALITY🌱💧 "We call it a kinder egg, where we get renewable energy, groundwater protection and biodiversity." Knud Erik Langhoff, Mayor of Kolding Kommune, speaks to one of Denmark's major challenges when it comes to #grønomstilling. There is a gigantic challenge associated with finding space on the map of Denmark for the green transition. And the solutions take up🌍 space. And they cost💰.   At the same time, he has good reason to be proud. Because a ”groundwater park” with renewable energy is well on its way in Kolding. 📰 In DANVA s brand new magazine #DANSKVAND, the mayor's previous statement is unfolded in the article ‘Here several kinds of green transition safeguard the groundwater’, in which a number of actors, based in the small towns of Viuf & Håstrup in Kolding and Vejle Kommune, share experiences with combining a number of green initiatives in the same area. The key word is multifunctionality, collaboration is a needed ingredient, patience an important foundation. And it is also the way forward, according to the article's two main actors: 💧 Multifunctional solutions: Municipalities and water companies can combine green initiatives such as solar cells, wind turbines and groundwater protection on the same area. 💧 Reimagined financing: For example, groundwater parks are financed with the production of renewable energy from wind turbines or solar panels. This makes it possible to compensate farmers for loss of income. 💧 Close dialogue with local people: Projects such as the Viuf-Håstrup Groundwater Park show that community involvement leads to better and more accepted solutions. "If only all the country's major water supplies were protected as well as Viuf, we would have come a long way," says Jakob Sønderskov Weber, head of citizen involvement at Better Energy optimistically in the article. He also points to a huge stone in the shoes of the water companies that must be solved.   "The farmer must be compensated for his loss of income when he cannot use pesticides and fertilize his land. And there, the water companies have only limited legal ability to pass on the extra cost to the water consumers." The groundwater park in Kolding and Vejle of 347 hectares is expected to be completed later this year. You will find more articles with inspiration on how we can combine green solutions for a sustainable future in the new DANSKVAND with the theme “The clean drinking water” 🌱💧 .

Læs mere om aftalen her https://lnkd.in/d2b42bWV

Can solar parks act as future carbon sinks? ☀️ Biolan Oy and Better Energy are jointly exploring how the revegetation of peatlands within solar parks can help sequester carbon. 🌱🌳🌿 Better Energy’s first solar parks in Finland will be developed on decommissioned peat extraction sites. Together with Biolan, it will develop a vegetation strategy for its solar parks that aims to enhance the revegetation of the peatlands. 💬 “For years, we have been involved in research seeking solutions for the sustainable usage, processing, harvesting and cultivation of renewable biomass, such as sphagnum moss. Now we can use this knowledge to also turn solar park areas into carbon sinks," says Janne Pitkänen, Director of Peatland Operations at Biolan. 💬 “The carbon sink function of decommissioned peat extraction areas can be restored by maintaining high water levels, allowing the water table to rise close to the surface of the peat. This enables the growth of mosses and other plants, which in turn enhances biodiversity and can lead to long-term carbon sequestration,” says Leena Virkki, Senior Environmental and Sustainability Specialist at Better Energy. 💬 “Biolan's expertise in peatland operations will be immensely helpful in enabling us to vegetate the decommissioned peatlands. We have found a partner in Biolan that shares our values and the goal of building a more sustainable future," says Marcus Stenstrand, Business Director for Finland at Better Energy. Better Energy has a development portfolio of over 3,000 MWp, spanning a total area of 4,000 hectares in Finland. Its first solar park, with an annual production capacity of approximately 34 GWh of renewable energy, is expected to be completed near Vierumäki at Laviassuo by 2026. ⚡ Read the full press release: https://lnkd.in/d4dyE7Ch

All types of businesses are needed to drive the green transition 🌍, and everybody should have the opportunity to have an impact that matters. Recently, local businesses in Ringe and Faaborg on Funen gathered for insightful discussions about local renewable energy production ☀️, facilitated by Faaborg-Midtfyn Erhvervsråd . Our PPA Origination Manager, Malte Cats-Abildgaard, shared Better Energy's aim to create regional value by tying local production to local consumption ⚡. The response was encouraging, with businesses interested in learning more about covering their electricity consumption with green energy from nearby upcoming solar parks 🌞. Malte's appearance on the P4 Zealand Monday morning debate further emphasised the importance of regional renewable energy production in creating local value. This follows a similar approach we have taken in Lolland, working alongside Lolland Kommune and Business Lolland-Falster to pioneer flexible PPA solutions for small-to-medium-sized businesses. Our recent collaboration with the Municipality of Białaczów in Poland also signifies our ongoing commitment to finding opportunities to power regions with renewable energy 🌐. Thank you to all businesses—regardless of their electricity consumption size—for their good collaboration and curiosity about taking part in the green transition 🤝 . Under the sun ☀️, we welcomed Lolland Kommune, PPA partners, and Business Lolland-Falster to our Hoby Solar Park to officially celebrate its opening, alongside Industriens Pension, who co-own the solar park in our joint venture partnership Impact II.  It was an opportunity to thank the eight companies, Atea Danmark, Coloplast, COWI, PwC, Danish Technological Institute, Tivoli, Toms Group A/S, Trioworld, who have all signed Power Purchase Agreements with Better Energy to offtake renewable energy from the park.  Malte Cats-Abildgaard, PPA Manager at Better Energy, highlighted the contribution of all the partners in establishing more additional renewable energy in Denmark.  💬 “The solar park in Hoby is one of our first operational parks with a multi-partner PPA setup. This setup allows several companies to purchase additional green power from the same solar park before it is constructed. A day like today is truly a testament to the impact of PPAs, as these companies have directly contributed to the realisation of this solar park. Thanks to all of our partners for making the green choice and greening the grid with us. For Camilla Hjort Pagh, Senior Vice President, Global QA, RA & Sustainability at Coloplast, it marked an important day for the company's sustainability journey.  💬"It was a true pleasure joining the official opening of the solar park in Hoby which is now supplying us with fuel for our sustainability journey. I am proud that we with this PPA help ensure additional renewable electricity is introduced to the grid - and it only felt right to celebrate on a day like this with the sun shining upon us." A big thank you goes out to Mayor of Lolland Kommune, Holger Schou Rasmussen who attended the opening and gave a great welcoming speech: 💬 “Congratulations to Better Energy, Industriens Pension and the 8 companies offtaking green energy harvested here on Lolland. The multi-partner setup pioneered at Hoby is also promising because it paves the way for local businesses from Lolland to get first rights on green energy from coming parks.” Better Energy’s and the municipality’s collaboration continues as they pioneer a flexible PPA solution that gives local companies first rights to reserve renewable energy from upcoming solar parks. Hoby Solar Park generates enough renewable energy annually to cover the electricity consumption of approximately 43,000 Danes.
