Obituary of Douglas Dean Wright

Please share a memory of Douglas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

EAST MACHIAS – Douglas D. Wright, 60, died Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Eastside Center For
Health and Rehabilitation in Bangor, where he resided for many years.

He was born in Bangor, Maine, on July 3, 1963, the son of Robert W. and Patricia J. Wright.
Douglas “Dougie,” as everyone called him, attended school in Machias for special needs and
later in Brewer for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Dougie enjoyed life only the way he could, Dougie style, by watching police cars, fire trucks, and
big rigs drive by on Route 191 in Jacksonville. He liked to put his arm up in the air to signal them
to honk, and everyone who knew Dougie gave him a thrill by doing just that. He liked having
stories read to him, and oh, boy, was he ever a big storyteller! He had fun spending hours
playing with his toy police cars and fire engines, and on birthdays and Christmas, when asked
what he wanted for a gift, it was always the same thing…a toy police car and fire engine. Over
the years, he has stored quite a collection and never tired of it.

Dougie prayed for everyone around him and asked how his various family members were
whenever we saw or talked to him. His nephew Rob noted that he made a positive mark on our
lives and has always loved the Lord.

Besides his parents, Dougie was pre-deceased by his siblings, Dana W. Wright and Donna J.
Wright, and his great-niece, Sarah L. Wright. He is survived by his brother David Wright and his
wife, Virginia (Brown) Wright, of Belfast; his nephews Dale Wright, Shane Wright of Los
Angeles, CA; Rob Wright and his wife, Bethany (Klein) Wright, of Charleston, SC; great-nephews
Tyler Wright, and Mikey Wright, great-nieces Elisabeth Wright, Abigail Wright, Julie Anne
Wright, and Lydia Wright, Uncle-in-law Butch Brown, great niece-in-law, Jessica Lee Ben-Jedi,
numerous cousins, and good friend, April Kirkland.

A private riverside memorial service, a poignant tribute to the life of Douglas D. Wright, will be
held with family in the fall. Instead of flowers, we invite you to consider making a memorial
contribution to the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities at
