Jeffrey H. Herbst, Ph.D. has a doctoral degree in Psychology from the University of Maryland Graduate School, Baltimore, and over 37 years of research and public health experience. He began his federal career as a Psychologist with the National Institute on Aging (NIA), National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Baltimore, Maryland where he conducted basic and applied research on individual differences in personality processes and traits. From 2002-2014, he served as a Behavioral Scientist in the Prevention Research Branch, Division of HIV Prevention at CDC. Dr. Herbst led numerous systematic reviews and meta-analyses of HIV behavioral interventions for high-risk populations; served as CDC scientist overseeing HIV behavioral prevention research, and led a team of scientists to advance implementation research in HIV prevention including adaptation research. Since 2014, Dr. Herbst serves as the Chief of the Research and Evaluation Branch, Division of Violence Prevention in CDC’s Injury Center. He manages and oversees a growing portfolio of research and rigorous evaluation studies to reduce or prevent multiple forms of violence in the United States. Over his career, Dr. Herbst has published over 100 articles in psychology, public health and medicine.
