𝗗𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝘆 𝗺𝘆 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹?  Open source software has the power to revolutionising traditional business models, services and processes! By embracing open source, businesses can e. g. lower costs, improve flexibility, and foster innovation. While concerns about issues such as integration difficulties, complex license management and security risks exist, open source communities like our Innovation Community are in place to ensure efficient and strategic leveraging of open source software for commodities. 💡 Looking at our open source based eCMR solution, which is still under development, we have member companies such as Cargo Sign, CargoLedger, LKW WALTER, PIONIRA NV, Transporeon and TransFollow, which have their own eCMR solutions and platforms successfully on the market. Yet, they are actively working on a commodity layer of the eCMR, which they can then use to adapt to their individual solutions to be more interoperable. 🎯 Why do they want to collaborate? They all share a common goal of digitalising logistics and uniting supply chain systems. This can only be done through working together on their commonly faced challenges while leveraging combined experiences and expertise to create better solutions that work for all and drive innovation. A single company cannot achieve such results on their own. A study done by Manuel Hoffmann from Harvard Business Review reveals that companies would have to invest an average of 3.5 times as much in software and platforms if there were no open source software solutions. Stay tuned for a deep dive into business models and open source implementation in the upcoming 4th edition of the Open Logistics Magazine.  👉🏻 Register for future editions here: https://lnkd.in/eWGREnGY #digitalisation #opensource #businessmodels

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗳𝘁𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗲 𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱? The application of open source components in digital products or process development can be used in various ways.  // Incorporation of parts of the open source code into own code. // Linking of open source components with proprietary components. // Modification of open source code by adding or removing snippets. // Translation of code into other programming languages. 🎯 With different possibilities for utilising open source code, developers must pick the method that would be the most effective for their solution. Michael Schmidt, a contributor to the Open Logistics Report, highlights that "Depending on various factors like existing IT landscape, functional requirements, technical or licence compatibilities, businesses can decide the fitting method for open source application." 👉🏻 Learn more about the possibilities of utilising open source software in your operations by reading the full report on our website: https://lnkd.in/eC2-PjpR 📌 The authors that contributed to this report: Michael Schmidt, Marius Brehler, Jens Leveling and Andreas Nettsträter. #opensource #opensourcesoftware #logist

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗟𝗮𝘄? 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄! Transport law - as the transport industry itself - is facing two major changes: #digitalisation and #sustainability. Dr. David Saive, LL.M., our Legal Product Owner, shares some interesting updates:    💻 Digitalisation: More and more countries are becoming parties to the #eCMR-protocol. Lately, #Austria and #Italy have ratified the protocol. Plus, UNCITRAL: United Nations Commission on International Trade Law's #MLETR is gaining popularity worldwide. #France passed a law allowing all electronic trade documents, including #eBLs, in mid-June. In addition, the #eFTI regulation is just around the corner. In the near future, all information exchange related to transport will be executed in digital form.   ✔ Sustainability: The transport industry is becoming leaner and greener. However, it faces many transparency and sustainability requirements, starting with emission reporting and ending with general supply chain due diligence. The Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (#CSDDD), a directive within the European Union law, generally requires companies of a certain size to comply with and demonstrate compliance with human rights and environmental standards along their global value chain. In addition, the EU is working on specific rules for the transport sector. The Proposal for the Regulation on the Accounting of Greenhouse Gas Emissions of Transport Services (COM(2023) 441 final) aims to establish rules for the accounting of the greenhouse gas emissions of transport services that start or end on the Union territory.    🔍 The Open Logistic Foundation is intensely working on both ends. The standards we create for electronic documents facilitate the emission reports and help you gain more insights into your supply chain. Companies need to be aware of these changes and adapt to them to remain efficient and competitive. Are you curious how you can stay ahead of the curve? Join us! The GPID key data set enables digital and forgery-proof data processing during both the export and import process. This is an advantage not only for customs authorities but also for freight forwarders, sellers, and buyers. The Working Group would like to promote cooperation with TAXUD, the Directorate-General for Taxation and Customs Union, and the customs authorities of EU and non-EU countries and has already submitted proposals for a GPID pilot project with British and EU authorities. "We are encouraging authorities to participate in a pilot project that would not require any financial investment or changes to their current systems," explains Michael Douglas, Customs Technology Consultant at ALS Customs Services and co-lead of the Open Customs Blockchain Working Group. "The concept proves that trusted, first-hand data can effectively reduce customs evasion and fraud."
