Let‘s take a look at BEV sales in the 1st half of 2024! As we wrap up the first half of 2024, Europe’s battery electric vehicle (BEV) market remains steady, matching levels from early 2023. After strong growth in the few last years, BEV sales have now plateaued. Phase-out of incentives, political discussions of CO2 targets, charging infrastructure build-up and vehicle offerings are influencing BEV buyers’ decisions. In the U.S., BEV sales are higher than often communicated in the media, yet clearly lack the growth required to achieve an EV transition. H1/2024 sales have been on the same level as in H1/2023. Meanwhile, China has seen a 9% increase in year-to-date BEV production compared to the first half of 2023. Additionally, PHEV sales surged, so that EVs (BEVs + PHEVs) accounted for roughly 40% of the produced light vehicles in China in the first half of 2024. What are your predictions for the EV market in 2024/2025? Will the slowdown of EV adoption in Europe put 2025 CO2 target compliance at risk? What about 2030 / 2035 targets? Is the surge of PHEV sales in China a short-term phenomenon or will it persist? Will we see spill-over effects from China into the European and U.S. PHEV markets? Let's discuss!
