Saturday read ☕ "I tell my students to never underestimate the climate crisis, especially when reporting on the environment and urban news, because those environmental destructions or urban corruption are definitely connected to the climate crisis in the big picture. Because the destruction of a forest triggers the climate crisis. Our profession is journalism. And the path of journalism is a long one. I think that I am – and all journalists working in the field of environment are – the voice of many creatures such as trees and squirrels whose voices are not heard. The more I report, the bigger and more visible these voices become." – Hazal Ocak on environmental and urban journalism in #Turkey. https://lnkd.in/ejXZxMqA

🇺🇦 The Fix Media Foundation and the European Centre for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF) have launched the second phase of the "Voices of Ukraine" program. This initiative focuses on funding stable electricity, communication equipment, and supporting frontline/hyperlocal media outlets continuing to operate amidst Russia's invasion. Ukrainian media organisations are invited to apply until 30 July for grants up to €10,000 to purchase crucial equipment like generators, satellite communications, and more to keep journalists working safely. Details 👇 Note: "Voices of Ukraine" is a program led by the European Centre for Press and Media Freedom and implemented in partnership with The Fix Media Foundation. The program is part of the Hannah-Arendt-Initiative and is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office. Together with our partners, we strongly condemn the cyber disinformation campaign against the press freedom organisation Reporters Without Borders (RSF). The attacks have been orchestrated by the Paris-based communications agency “Progressif Media”, whose minor stakeholder is the Vivendi Group, a French mass-media holding company controlled by media tycoon Vincent Bolloré. ECPMF stands in full solidarity with RSF and urges a swift and thorough investigation into the disinformation campaign. https://lnkd.in/eUbVwzy8

✈️ Uncovering the truth is dangerous and can put journalists at serious risk. When a journalist finds him- or herself in danger because someone wants to keep the public in the dark, a situation can occur where the only way to safety is to seek refuge in another country. Read our report “Relocation of journalists in distress in the European Union: Emergency visa mechanisms in the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Lithuania, the Netherlands and Poland” to gain insights into relocation mechanisms available for media professionals in the EU. https://lnkd.in/e7xqYVWg
