    Flat Hierarchies - increasingly common? Currently doing research into this field, not looking for "better or worst" yet. Simply to see how many of you have worked in such a setting. Question: Have you ever worked in a flat hierarchy setting? Definition: There are many definitions but essentially a flat hierarchy is one with very few/no layers between the C-suite and usually large decisions can be made at the grassroot/team level. A true flat hierarchy encourages its people to make such decisions rather than simply passing information upwards for the "exec" team to make the decision. The middle-managers (if any) focus more on team development rather than decision making. A company with just 10-20 or people is not really a flat hierarchy, its a small company, a flat hierarchy is one that could be structured with layers but chooses not to.
