Perceptive Technologies (YC W20) has raised $30 million in funding to transform dental surgery through advanced robotics, artificial intelligence, and 3D volumetric imaging. Today, the company completed the world’s first fully automated dental procedure on a human using its advanced robotic dentistry system. This milestone marks a significant leap forward, setting a new standard of care in dentistry. Perceptive’s dental robotics system combines AI-driven 3D imaging with a robotic arm to perform dental procedures, starting with restorative dentistry, much faster and more precisely than traditional methods. It can complete tasks like crown placements in just 15 minutes, compared to the usual two office visits of at least one hour each. Dr. Chris Ciriello, CEO and Founder of Perceptive, highlights the significance of this breakthrough, noting that it boosts precision and efficiency while making dental care more accessible. The system uses 3D scans for accurate diagnostics and treatment planning, starting with a handheld intraoral scanner that captures detailed images of the tooth and mouth. These images help patients understand their dental conditions better. Perceptive’s AI algorithms then analyze this data to plan and execute procedures with high precision, allowing dentists to treat more patients efficiently and with fewer errors.
