ABOUT

How to use this drug price lookup

Type the name of a prescription drug to track changes in the average price pharmacies pay for it. Click on a drug name to see its lowest, highest and latest prices and a chart showing price changes over the past ten years.

What the numbers mean

  • Price reflects what retail community pharmacies pay on average, based on nationwide surveys each month. While the prices patients pay vary widely from what it costs pharmacies to buy prescription drugs from wholesalers, these prices can indicate market trends, changes in the supply chain or drug shortages.
  • As of date is the date the most recent price is reported, from surveys two months prior.
  • Price change ratio shows how much a drug’s latest price changed from one year ago. For example, a ratio of 2 means the price has doubled in the past year.

Pills

Tablets, pills and capsules have a price per unit listed as “Each.” These prices indicate how much it costs pharmacies, on average, to buy one pill of that drug.

Liquids, creams and ointments

Some drugs sold by the gram or milliliter have a range of prices in the price column. Different package sizes for these types of drugs correspond with their own price. The same topical cream may have three different tube sizes, which are each grouped and priced separately. This lookup uses the highest prices to calculate the price-change ratio.
