Overview

Pipeline (de_pipeline)[1] was a bomb defusal map that was featured in Counter-Strike: Condition Zero during its development.

Overview[]

The map took place along a large oil pipeline in the snowy Siberian tundra.[2] There were large interior and exterior areas in the map.[3] The Counter-Terrorists had to prevent the Terrorists from sabotaging the pipeline.[4]

Development[]

Pipeline was designed by Alexander Manilov when Gearbox Software was developing Counter-Strike: Condition Zero. Manilov was employed by Gearbox in June 2001 and Pipeline was the first map he designed for their version of the game.

Manilov thought the map had turned out pretty well by the time he left Gearbox Software in December 2001.[5][6] At Gearbox, the map underwent further editing in the hands of Patrick Hook and Mike Wardwell.[7]

Despite reports that the map had a snow theme,[2] known screenshots from the map show no indication of snow. This suggests that the theme of the map was likely altered at some point in development.

When Ritual Entertainment took over development of Counter-Strike: Condition Zero in August 2002, the bomb defusal map was presumably scrapped. However, some of the geometry, including parts of the pipe itself, was reused for the Pipe Dream single player mission.
