Ingredients
- 4large navel oranges
- ¼cup pomegranate arils
- 1tablespoon orange flower water
- Confectioners’ sugar for dusting (optional)
- 2teaspoons chopped pistachios (optional)
Preparation
- Step 1
Using a sharp knife, carefully peel the oranges so they are naked and spherical. To do so, cut a thin slice from the bottom of the orange so it can rest flat on a cutting board. Remove peel in wide strips, starting at the top.
- Step 2
Slice oranges crosswise into ⅛-inch-thick rounds. Arrange overlapping slices on a platter or individual plates. Top with pomegranate arils. Sprinkle the orange flower water over everything. Wrap and chill for an hour if possible or keep in a cool spot. Just before serving, dust oranges with a small amount of confectioners’ sugar and pistachios, if using.

Cooking Notes
It's a distillate of orange flowers. Special pots are used to steam orange flowers and gather the resulting water. Real orange flower water should have no ingredients other than orange flowers. No alcohol, no orange oil.
A light dusting of cinnamon and some minced fresh mint makes this even better. You can also use rose water in place of orange water. I learned to make this in a Moroccan cooking class. It is so much more than the sum of its parts!
Delicious, simple, and elegant. Made with Cara Cara oranges and skipped the orange flower water.
I didn't have orange flower water, so I drizzled it with orange blossom honey from Greece. This is a delightfully refreshing dessert or a side dish to serve with ham.
where on earth do you find orange flowers?
This was fantastic! And I didn’t even have the orange flower water., so I omitted that. (Can’t find it in Chapel Hill either, even at Wegman’s). I ordered some on line for next time. And there will definitely be a next time! What a light, refreshing way to end a meal.
I used a little Rose water since the orange blossom was not available. It was a really pretty salad and liked the pomegranate and pistachios on top.
Delicious and a great end to the meal. I did not have orange flower water so just drizzled the juice I got when cutting the oranges over the whole thing.
Very filling! I made this for my family and we were STUFFED. Perhaps this will be better suited as a replacement for turkey (we're #vegan) this Thanksgiving.

Add a swirl of pomegranate syrup/molasses and a teaspoon of candied rose petals for even more joy.

Used pomegranate flavored pistachios. Delicious.
We're not fans of orange flower water as ingredient at our house, so omitted that and otherwise per recipe and using the optional pistachios (we buy ours from family Fiddyment Farm in CA) and confectioner's sugar this was a simple to make and simply delightfully refreshing end to a meal. We always have Medjool dates (Traina in CA is our source for these to always be plump fresh) so added a couple of those to the plates as David Tanis suggested.

Casey, You ask what is orange flower water. For questions like this, Google is your friend. ;-) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orange_flower_water Used often in Middle Eastern cooking Available at most standard grocery stores (sometimes in baking aisle), Middle Eastern markets and lots on line sources. A little goes a long way. It isn't particularly expensive. Nielsen Massey has one now. I do a lot of Middle Eastern cooking but I am not fond of it (or rose water). You can omit it here.
