Very misleading name: While the name suggests the category only contains videos that are currently available on YouTube, it also contains screenshots and videos might no longer be available on YouTube. I suggest renaming it to Category:Screenshots and videos from YouTube, similiar to Category:Videos from Vimeo.    FDMS  4    14:13, 23 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have a problem with this, but note that from Youtube isn't necessarily true either - they might have been uploaded here first/independently of YouTube. Richard001 (talk) 06:43, 4 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think videos now also available on YouTube should be in this category, because potentially every free video from Commons can also be available there …    FDMS  4    11:11, 4 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
This should be separated into:

We simply cannot know whether a video is also available on YouTube, so creating this category would make no sense in my opinion. I can't see what kind of content you have in mind for Category:YouTube videos.    FDMS  4    22:07, 8 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
As a license reviewer, category-intersection queries such as incategory:"Videos available on YouTube" incategory:"License review needed" or incategory:"Videos available on YouTube" incategory:"Images from external sources with admin-reviewed licenses" can be quite useful, but separating the category in question introduces additional layer of complexity. --朝彦 | asahiko (talk) 17:04, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
At least Category:Videos from YouTube and Category:Screenshots from YouTube should be useful. Regards, Yann (talk) 10:44, 16 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Regardless of how this stale discussion closes, I just set up {{From YouTube}} to autocategorize into Category:Media from YouTube to match the function of {{From Vimeo}}. Both templates could use more specificity, such as |type= for screenshot, video, audio, etc. but I don't see that as a priority I am no longer watching this page—ping if you'd like a response czar 16:50, 14 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Not formally closing this yet until I see how much more work I have to do, but an update. It's clear that migrating media where Youtube was the source to Category:Media from YouTube is the right move; once that's done, we can see how many files are left. I've updated {{YouTube CC-BY}} to categorize into the new category, but it'll take some time to purge. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 23:09, 13 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Pi.1415926535: There are now 145 files left in this category, but of these, 80 are uploaded by just to user MZaplotnik, and another 29 were uploaded by R-E-AL. - Themightyquill (talk) 23:19, 20 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted, with contents moved to Category:Media from YouTube where appropriate. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 02:01, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
